The Ku Klux Klan originated in the southern United States after the Civil War. The KKK aimed to reestablish white supremacy and sought to eliminate African Americans, Christians, Jews and other groups. In the 1920s, the second KKK was reformed under William J. Simons and used lynching and violence against racial and religious minorities. The document also discusses the origins and goals of the first, second and third iterations of the KKK throughout American history.
O documento é um relatório de 22 páginas da escola BES Elias Garcia sobre o Circuito das Bibliotecas para alunos do 1o ano datado de 10 de outubro de 2012.
The 1920s saw economic prosperity in the United States driven by new technologies like the automobile, mass-produced by Henry Ford using assembly lines, and installment buying which let consumers purchase expensive goods without full payment up front. However, this led many to take on more debt than they could handle. When the stock market crashed in 1929, the money Americans had gained from stocks vanished, businesses closed, and unemployment rose to 33%, plunging the country into the Great Depression.
The document summarizes a set of "paradoxical commandments" that were originally written by Kent M. Keith in 1968 and often attributed to Mother Teresa. The commandments counsel embracing kindness, honesty, success, and doing good for others regardless of how others may respond or what recognition one receives. The overall message conveyed is to remain focused on doing one's best for its own sake rather than for external rewards or validation.
Women gained the right to vote in the United States in 1920 with the ratification of the 19th amendment. After World War I ended, a new type of liberated woman, called a "flapper," emerged in both the United States and Great Britain. Flappers wore makeup, short skirts, and bobbed hair, and engaged in activities like smoking and drinking in public that had previously been uncommon for women. The Equal Rights Amendment, introduced in 1923, proposed guaranteeing equal rights for both men and women. Higher education for women also expanded rapidly during this time period, with the percentage of college degrees earned by women in the US rising from 19% at the start of the century to 39% by 1928.
The Jazz Age refers to the period after World War I through the 1920s. This era saw the rise of jazz music and dance styles like the Charleston. Literature from this time, like F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, highlighted the corruption and growth of individualism in post-war America. Music like jazz, ragtime, and blues originated from the African American community and became distinctly American art forms. Dancing to new steps like the Charleston and Black Bottom defined the era until the Great Depression ended the Roaring Twenties.
This document provides instructions for installing the Chromixium operating system. There are several installation methods, including automatic, manual, direct, and legacy modes. Automatic mode automatically partitions the hard drive and installs Chromixium. Manual mode allows the user to customize partitions before installation. Direct mode skips partitioning for users who already prepared their system. The Systemback installer is used for all methods. It creates user accounts and installs Chromixium onto the selected partition. Basic post-installation configuration of time zone, keyboard, and language is then performed before rebooting into the new system.
