- Overview
What is an Inclusive
Classroom
- It is a general education classroom in a
general education school
- It welcomes and supports students with and
without learning differences
- It supports the diverse academic, social,
emotional, and communication needs of all
students
- It reduces stigma for kids with learning,
attention and behavioral issues
What is an Inclusive
Classroom
- Child spends the majority of the school day in the general
education classroom
- Child’s desk is included with the other groups of desks in the
classroom
- Child has access to and is included in classroom lessons and
activities that are adapted to his/her special needs
- Child’s paraprofessional or special education teacher
facilitates his/her access to the curriculum and classroom
activities
- Child receives specialist support (therapy, speech, and
language) with minimal disruption to the class routine and
program

Inclusion begins with the belief that all children should have
equal access to education and should learn alongside their

1. It is the right of every child to have equal access to education
2. All children learn with and alongside their same-age peers
3. The focus of education is on the child’s abilities, not
disabilities
4. Children develop positive attitude towards differences and
needs
5. Children develop meaningful relationships and friendships

Inclusion begins with the belief that all children should have
equal access to education and should learn alongside their

6. Students develop confidence in their ability to interact with one another
and the world around them
7. Teachers are highly trained and skilled at delivering appropriate student-
centered curriculum through differentiated activities according to abilities
8. Students with needs are supported by special education teachers,
paraprofessionals and specialists such as speech / language therapists
9. Various resources and assistive technologies are available to students in
order to reach and teach all learners
10. Inclusive schools value input and participation from the whole
community, not just students, Everyone is welcome!!!!!
