Red Travel
In 2004, The Chinese government
launched the “Red Travel” policy. The policy
encourages Chinese people to visit sites with
historical significance to the Chinese
Communist part. “Red travel” has two goals.
The first is to educate young people about
China’s revolutionary history. The second goal is
to promote economic development in
underdeveloped regions.
“Red Travel” includes many famous
attractions. One is ShaoShan in Hunan. The city
is the birthplace of Mao Zedong. There is also
Unit 731 in the PingFang district of Harbin.
During the Second World War, The Japanese
Kwantung army used this place to perform
biological and chemical warfare research; this
also includes many deadly human experiments.
Additionally, there is Yanan city. From 1963 to
1948 the city was the center of the Chinese
Communist revolution. Today, visitors can
partake in mock battles. Other “Red Travel”
attractions include; Jinggang mountain, Xifeng
concentration camp, Gutian county, and Zunyi
city.
In conclusion, it can be said that China’s “Red
Travel” policy has been very successful and
popular. However, there has been some
opposition from this movement by old
revolutionaries. They feel that this type of travel
desecrates these solemn places. They believe
that these types of tourists to not respect these
hollowed sites.
