As the fall semester is quickly winding down, I often catch myself reflecting on the fact that I will

The program that I was assigned to work with was the After School Program. At first I was just an
assistant for the teachers, but then I became one of the lead teachers. I helped with homework,

I apologize for not answering this weekend, but I was busy with studying and homework for this

Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All

promised one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and

to get ready. I asked his mom where Tony was and she proceeded to tell me that he was in the
bathroom getting ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the

So, when I came to the end of the first draft of my thesis, I was convinced I had produced a solid
piece of writing and that I was finally, and thankfully, done with it. At the point at which I was
ready to jack the thesis under my rear tires, I knew I had worked hard on this piece, harder than I
had ever worked on a piece of writing in my life. It was certainly the longest piece of writing that I
had ever produced; yet I had erroneously equated length with good quality. I had done no revising

Pursuing a graduate degree, specifically a PhD, is a decision that was made only in the last few
years. This new direction was largely based on my recent exposure to higher education in general,
but to minority women in higher education specifically. To help explain how this exposure helped

provide you with some background information and context of my upbringing. My parents are
immigrated from Mexico shortly after getting married. Although my father had been coming to

greatly as they move onto college. Acceptance rate, ability to succeed in and graduation rate would

is an important aspect of our education system. Today more than ever, there is an emphasis on
having experience before beginning work. Most jobs are now focused on looking past your resume

preparing college students for the work force by mandating that they receive all of the necessary
exposure and experience. Numerous schools across the country have mandated that in order for their

Maryland, high school students are required to complete a minimum of 75 hours of service in order
to graduate. However, this decision has resulted in a lot of mixed responses. Advocates of this
decision stress that mandatory community service opens doors for students, while the opponents
feel that it takes away valuable time from students who need to focus on their education. I believe that
gaining experience outside of school is critical for future success in life. To ensure that students are
