4. INTEGERS
Counting numbers , their negatives and zero
Together are called Integers
Integers:.......,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,.........
5. • Sum and product of two counting numbers
Are again counting numbers
E.g. : 1+2=3 , 1x2=2
5+7=12 , 5x7=35
• The difference is some times counting
numbers , sometimes negative of counting
numbers or zero
3-2=1 , 3-7=-4 , 6-6=0
6. • The sum , difference and product of two
integers are integers.
0+1=1 , 1+2=3 , 0-1=-1 , 2-(-1)=-1
0x1=0 , 1x2=2 . All are integers
• When an integer is divided by another integer
the quotient need not be an integer always ,
some times we get fractions.
10/2=5 , 9/2=4 ½.
7. RATIONAL NUMBERS
Integers and fractions (positive or
negative)are collectively called Rational
numbers.
8. Review
• What is Rational numbers?
Integers and fractions are collectively
called Rational numbers.
• Write examples for rational numbers?
½, 3, -3/2.
9. ASSIGNMENT
• Prove that the sum , difference , product and
division of rational numbers are again rational
numbers?
