Introduction
 The word discipline comes from the Latin
term Discipline which means instruction.
In general terms discipline refers to giving
systematic instruction , but in real life
discipline is the bridge between goals and
accomplishment. Discipline not only
enhances the learning situation, but also
lead the students to more creative, self
disciplined, understanding which is
needed for good citizenship in today's
changing world.
Definition
 It is defined as training or molding of the
mind or character to bring about desired
behavior.
Or
 Training to improve strength or self
control.
Or
To train by instruction and practice
especially to teach self control.
VALUE OF DISCIPLINE
Discipline is the first law of nature. The sun
rises and brings the day. It sets and there is
night and moon and stars are visible. Man is
also a unit of nature so just like a nature, if
human being do not observe discipline the
entire social structure would fall like a house
of cards. (imbalance). discipline is necessary
in all walks of life, school, college, workplace
or society. Discipline is necessary for proper
functioning of society and for becoming better
citizen and more importantly better human
being.

Discipline in student life
Discipline is extremely important in student
life. They form the core of other virtues like
punctuality, cleanliness and honesty.
A disciplined student is a ruler of his own.
As he can rule his own wishes and habits.
Thus discipline lays foundation of achieving
better results, outshining in class and more
importantly achieving higher goals in life.
The decay of discipline in our society is
reflected in violence, bad traffic sense in
people and bad behavior.
Classroom discipline for student
 Have rules and remind them often.
 Keeps rules short and simple
 Be nice to teacher and classmates
 Raise hand to speak
 Be silent or whisper.
 Resist giving attention to the disruptor someone is
disturbing the class.
 Involve the teacher to solve your problems
 Talk privately to the teacher
Indiscipline :
 Means disorderliness, insubordination and
not following the rules and regulation of an
organization.
Causes of indiscipline:
 Faulty disciplinary action taken by the
authorities may lead to indiscipline
 Neglect of employees grievance
 Deficiency of well defined code of discipline
 Divide and rule policy
 improper attitude towards employees
problem
 Ill equipped supervisor may cause
indiscipline.
Principles for maintenance of Discipline
 All the rules should be framed in cooperation and
collaboration with the representatives of
employees
 Rules should be vary with changes in the working
condition of employees.
 Rules should be uniformly enforced if they are be
effective.
 Penalties for any violation of any rules should be
clearly stated in advance.
 Extreme caution should be exercised to ensure
that infringements (breaking rules)are not
encouraged.
 If violations of a particular rule are fairly Frequent,
the circumstances surrounding them should be
carefully investigated and studied in order to
discover the cause or cause of such violations.
 Recidivism (the act of continuing to commit crimes even
after having been punished )must be expected. Some
offenders would almost certainly violates
rules more often than others. These cases
should be carefully considered so that their
causes may be discovered.
 Definitive and precise provisions for appeal
and review of all disciplinary actions should
be expressly mentioned in the employees
handbook or collective agreements.
Introduction :
Public relation commonly referred a PR is a
modern phenomenon, which goes a long
way in building the image of nursing as a
profession.
Consequently public relation is an important
adjunct of nursing administration as good
public relation will contribute towards a
better nursing administration and there by
improved quality of nursing services.
Public relation is the management through
communication, perception and strategic
relationship between an organization and its
internal and external stakeholders. Lets
break the two words used to imply public
relation
First word public means
 The communication or the people as a
whole.
 A group of people of sharing a common
interest.
Second word relation means
 Relevance of one to another
 Connection

relations is the deliberate, planned and
sustained effort to establish and
maintain mutual understanding
between an organization and its public.
Need for public relation
 Investing in public relation will help the
organization to achieve its objectives
effectively and smoothly
 Keeping the health consumer informed
about the availability of the range and types
of health care services.
 Informing the clientele about the hospital
medical and nursing service profile.
 Public relation are not only creating good
image, but also needed for attracting
motivating the public to service or towards
the purpose of the program.
 An effective public relation can create and
build up the image of an individual or an
organization or a nation.
Characteristics of public relation
 It is dynamic: the public relation process is one of
the continuous and constant change and adjustment
in order to maintain old relationship and build new
orders.
 It is analytical: it is a process of determining and
analyzing a situation and the factors influencing it.
 It is planned: goals are set and priorities are
determined in accordance with the problem or
situation analysis and within the constraints of time
and budget.
 It requires evaluation: performance is evaluated in
terms of achievement of goals.
 It demand adjustment : public relation should be
executed in a flexible manner in order to adjust to
the goal.
Components and tools of public
relation
Advertising: it is a drawing attention by public
announcement to a service with the aim of selling it.
Publicity: it is the technique of telling the story of any
organization. It includes advertizing too.
Propaganda: is the more or less systematic effort to
manipulate other people’s beliefs, attitudes, or actions by
means of symbols (words, gestures, banners, monuments,
music, so forth). Propagandists have a specified goal or set
of goals. To achieve these, they deliberately select facts,
arguments, and displays of symbols and present them in
ways they think it will have the most effect.
Diplomacy: it is the management of international relation
by negotiation. It is the art of dealing with people in a
sensitive and tactful way.
Campaign: A campaign is a planned set of activities that
people carry out over a period of time in order to achieve
something such as social or political change.
Public relation in hospital :
 Operative method: operative methods are essentially
connected with almost every aspect of hospitals operation
including those are carried out by such workmen as
telephone operators, admission clerks etc.
Roles of administrators in managing public relation
Needed arrangement should be given
 Evaluate the effectiveness of care
 Clarify any misunderstanding
 She or he can go round the hospital, check the complaints
and collect he information
 A high quality of patient facilities with good functional layout.
 To make others happy one must be happy himself. Good
morale of worker is important.
 By placing more emphasis on technology in dealing with
diagnosis and treatment, concern for patient should not be
neglected.
 Good administration and effective coordination among all the
clinical departments and other supportive services.
Sensitive areas:
 Reduce high waiting time in the OPD.
 Reduce delay at dispensary and laboratory
counter.
 Casualty dept should be organized to deal
with any type of casualty.
 Diet served hot from the dietary dept and
cleans
 well pressed linen from the hospital laundry.
 Hospital premises should be kept clean at all
the times.
 Hospital visitors should be dealt with
courteous.
 One nsg or medical staff should ne available in
a ward during visiting hours to answer their
quarries .
Communicative method:
 Give appropriate information to the patient
and visitors at enquiry and registration and
at the time of discharge.
 provision to listen to verbal complaints
instead of insisting on written ones.
 provision of suggestion box at an
appropriate place.
 Administrative rounds by hospital
administrators at different level.
 Holding annual hospital day where the public
can be showing various aspects of the
hospital operations.
 Talks and interviews on radio and television.
