Background :
ACSM-TB project is in its second year now. Last year on World Tuberculosis Day (WTD) the project
was launched. This year it was decided that the WTD observation will not be a single day event, it will
start from International Women‟s Day (IWD) celebration on 8th
March, 2010. On 8th
February, 2010 we
posted our planning of integration of WTD with IWD on World TB Day portal of stop TB partnership
(http://www.worldtbday.org/) 2nd
posting from start.
Integration of WTD with IWD
In coordinated efforts with Department of Women and Child Development Department (WCD), District
administration, department of Health and Family Welfare both at district and state level observation of
WTD was nicely integrated with IWD. Integration was done through different activities. District
Shajapur took lead and in collaboration with WCD and health a “Kshay Jagrukta Rath (TB Awareness
Van)” was flagged off by Chair Zila Panchyat in presence of DM, and other district officials. The Rath
yatra ended on 24th
March on WTD in a program at Shajapur bus stand. Department of women and
child development, Local NGOs and Volunteers have been understanding enough to allow space and
time in the programs organized to mark IWD in Ratlam, Vidisha, Shehdol and Harda, Chhindwara,
Raisen and Shehdol.
Preparation for the Orientation of MLAs:
Series of meetings within the ACSM team and with State Health Department resulted in chalking out
the outline of the program. The program planned for one and half hour duration. It was decided that
Honorable Chief Minister is being the chief guest, Hon‟able Speaker M.P. Vidhan Sabha being
presided over of the function, both Cabinet and State Minister Health & Family Welfare being the
guest of honour.
Its planned that program will have Dias banners, mementos for dignitaries and MLAs, badge for all the
participants, folder for all the participants, high tea and invitation card.
Opportunity in Challenge in organizing program
The program was to be organized by LEPRA India in collaboration with STC. The department of
health liked the idea so much that it decided to club the “Bitiya Campaign-sensitization on PC&PNDT
Act” along with the issue of TB. This gave a chance to have a full circle, as the World TB Day started
integration with International Women‟s Day March 8, 2010.

The sensitization program was one of the rare events for MLAs to get the latest update on TB and
RNTCP. This also brought the Government Officials and public representative on much sought after
same level. The event may not be able to bring some big change in the performance of RNTCP in the
state but it‟s sure a giant leap the that direction.

  • 7. WORLD TB DAY 2010 Madhya Pradesh INDIA Report on World TB Day 2010/LEPRA ACSM TB Project Madhya Pradesh, India http://www.leprasociety.org Page 7 Background : ACSM-TB project is in its second year now. Last year on World Tuberculosis Day (WTD) the project was launched. This year it was decided that the WTD observation will not be a single day event, it will start from International Women‟s Day (IWD) celebration on 8th March, 2010. On 8th February, 2010 we posted our planning of integration of WTD with IWD on World TB Day portal of stop TB partnership (http://www.worldtbday.org/) 2nd posting from start. Integration of WTD with IWD In coordinated efforts with Department of Women and Child Development Department (WCD), District administration, department of Health and Family Welfare both at district and state level observation of WTD was nicely integrated with IWD. Integration was done through different activities. District Shajapur took lead and in collaboration with WCD and health a “Kshay Jagrukta Rath (TB Awareness Van)” was flagged off by Chair Zila Panchyat in presence of DM, and other district officials. The Rath yatra ended on 24th March on WTD in a program at Shajapur bus stand. Department of women and child development, Local NGOs and Volunteers have been understanding enough to allow space and time in the programs organized to mark IWD in Ratlam, Vidisha, Shehdol and Harda, Chhindwara, Raisen and Shehdol. Preparation for the Orientation of MLAs: Series of meetings within the ACSM team and with State Health Department resulted in chalking out the outline of the program. The program planned for one and half hour duration. It was decided that Honorable Chief Minister is being the chief guest, Hon‟able Speaker M.P. Vidhan Sabha being presided over of the function, both Cabinet and State Minister Health & Family Welfare being the guest of honour. Its planned that program will have Dias banners, mementos for dignitaries and MLAs, badge for all the participants, folder for all the participants, high tea and invitation card. Opportunity in Challenge in organizing program The program was to be organized by LEPRA India in collaboration with STC.
