Setting up your Google My Business page is the first
step in Local Search Optimization, and should be a high
priority for all businesses.

Account, select “Create account’
You will need to create a Google
Account if you do not have one. It’s
free. This is also helpful for a
Google Analytics account if you
have a website.

If Google can’t find your business you will have to manually enter your
company name, address and phone number by clicking “Add your business”
Tip: Make sure your Name, Address and Phone Number is consistent in all
of your online listings

b. Brick and Mortar Businesses:
• Select “No”
a. Consultants and people who do not have a
brick and mortar business:
If you do not have a brick and mortar
business (and work as a consultant),
make sure that “Yes” is selected under “I
deliver goods and services to my
customers at their location.
If you do not serve customers at the
address that you filled in, you are defined
as a Service Area Business (SAB).
• Check “Yes”

I filled in my zip code and since I can
work online, I put within 1000 miles. It
adjusted to 632miles.
If you want your home address or
business to be listed, check “I also serve
customers at my business address”

Your profile will not be created on
Google My Business until you enter the
verification code. See step 9.
• You will get an option for a
Verification post card.
• The post card will contain a code
that you need to enter.
• Sometimes, there is an option to
verify via SMS (text).

If you are verifying via post card, there is an option to enter your name:
Your business needs to be verified within 30 days, so once the post card arrives,
verify immediately.

9. In 1-2 weeks you will receive a verification code in the mail to verify your business.
10. When you receive your verification code
• Go to https://business.google.com
• Log into your account,
• Enter the Code and Submit.

Congratulations!
Your business will be live on Google Maps within minutes. You are on your way to
boosting your search engine rankings and generating new leads!

Once your business is live, your clients can go to Google Maps and find you:
Click on the name of the business

Click on the link that says Google
reviews, assign a rating and leave a
review.
Reviews will boost your rating on the
Google search engine and drive more
custom to your business.
