Must-Do Exercise Drills For Football

In a sport where the playing eld is only 100 yards long and 53 yards wide, a fast
player is a dangerous player. So what does a player have to do to increase speed
when playing football?

Explosive speed in the eld is one of the best weapon’s in a team’s arsenal. But
achieving this takes a lot of e ort. A popular drill that promises increase in speed is
the single leg drills.

Single leg drills are all about balancing the power of both feet. As former NFL
cornerback J. J. McCleskey said, speed is measured by how much force you put into
the ground. McCleskey claims that he’s running with a strong right leg, he decelerates
every time he steps on his left because it doesn’t put the same amount of force as his
right.
While speed is a major concern, the game isn’t always a sprint. Chances are, defense
will be there for the tackle if given the opening. That’s why agility is also kept in high
regard. For this, the L drill or the 3 cone drill is a go-to.
The L drill requires multiple changes in direction in a small space and in high speed.
This drill is comprised of a quick back and forth as well as a swift cut. Coaches and
scouts typically use this drill to measure a player’s agility.
