2. San Francisco Baseball Academy is considered to be the
number one baseball school in the city. They work with
people from all age groups, ranging from small children
all the way up to the elderly. The academy's aim is to
help those who aspire to become professional sports
people. They also coach teams and advise local leagues.
3. The academy prides itself on nurturing peoples' love for
the game. Not only do they offer coaching but you can
hold your birthday party there or just hang out and have
a good time. The atmosphere is very supportive and
friendly, so people need not be nervous about signing up
for a class.
4. Michael Aicardi founded the school. He started off with
just one customer. However, he has grown his client
base to over a hundred. His idea was to boost
enthusiasm for baseball within the city and increasing
the number of students is a way of accomplishing that.
There is now a cutting-edge indoor practice facility as
well as three additional coaches.
5. Joe Della Cell is one of the coaching staff. He is
passionate about the sport and wants it to be popular in
the city. For a few years he was the University Of San
Francisco's assistant coach and Director of Baseball
Operations before that. Back in 2005, he was awarded a
Master Of Arts degree in Sports Management.
6. All classes last for 60 minutes. Children are taught
specific baseball skills and they play in mini games to
practice those skills. The great thing about the game is
that technical skill matters more than physical size. Also,
it's not a contact sport like football. This means that
anyone can get involved and learn. It can also serve as a
useful introduction to playing team sports.
7. Some students are as young as three years old. Their
lessons tend to take place during the earlier part of the
day and they are taught about the game's fundamentals.
This typically means holding a bat and swinging it,
running to each base and throwing. The focus is on
working as a team, as well as good manners and
sportsmanship.
8. The lessons are geared toward understanding the
requirements of each child. The coaches try to
determine whether they are right or left handed and
they try to find ways of improving each child's
weaknesses. Everybody is taught the rules of the sport.
They are given written documents so that they can
spend time learning them at home. It takes years to
understand all the rules, so an early start is very useful.
9. San Francisco Baseball Academy also offer courses for
Major League students. They take eight classes a week
for eight weeks and each one lasts for about an hour.
Each course takes place on the same day each week. By
the end of the two month period, many students decide
to sign-up for more. You are free to join additional
classes if you want to do more than one a week. You can
pay for eight classes at a time or on a single class basis, it
depends on what you can afford.
