3. Component
MS (Mobile Station)
BTS (Base Transceiver system)
BSC (Base Station Controller)
MSC (Mobile Station Center )
PSTN (Public Switch Telephony Network)
SS7
HLR (Home Location Register)
GPRS (General Packet Radio service)
4. MS (Mobile Station)
Hand portable Unit
Contain mobile equipment (ME)
Subscriber Identity Module (SIM)
5. BTS (Base Transceiver system)
Handles the radio interface to the mobile station
Consists of one or more radio terminals for transmission and reception
Each radio terminal represents an RF channel
Received data transcoding
Voice encryption and decryption.
6. BSC (Base Station Controller)
Provide all the connection and physical links between MSC and BTS
Monitor and control several BTS
Management of channel on the radio interface
Alarm handling from the external interface
Perform inter-cell handover
External interface-
- ‘Abis’ interface towards the BTS
- ‘A’ interface towards the MSC
7. MSC (Mobile Station Center )
Perform all switching
Interfaces to all cellular network to PSTN
Paging
Billing
8. GPRS (General Packet Radio service)
GPRS (General Packet Radio service) is a new bearer service of GSM that
greatly improves and simplifies wireless access to packet data network
GPRS applies packet radio principle to transfer user data packet in an efficient
way b/w MS & external packet data network.
9. PSTN (Public Switch Telephony Network)
PSTN (Public Switch Telephony Network) is basically the inter-connected
telephony system over which telephone calls are made via copper wire.
PSTN based on the principle of circuit switching
Telephony calls transmitted as analogue signal across the copper wire
