Discuss the benefits of using Macros, Browse Queries vs. Create Lists, Search Range Feature, High-Demand Holds and so much more. Be sure to bring your personal tips and tricks to share!

โช Not all of the features we will discuss are new.
4. MACROS
Use them toโฆ
โช Create shortcuts to your functions (checkout, check
in, create lists, catalog, serials).
โช Create macros for commonly used notes, messages,
addresses, cataloging information or searches.
โช Use macros for diacritics that you use frequently.

6. BROWSE QUERIES
โช Use it for quick and concise searches (Maxโฆ5,000 records)
โช Lists that do not need to be retained
โช Since it isnโt retained, you donโt have to follow the standards for
keeping the review files in Create Lists organized.
โช In Catalog Function, Tools>Browse Query
Examples:
โช Patron phone numbers
โช Patron email addresses
โช Notes/Messages in item records
โช View hold information
8. CREATE LISTS
Allows you to choose a review file large enough to contain the search and
retain it for future use
โช Search an indexed range, existing review file or a specific range
โช Use an existing search
โช Retrieve saved query
Examples:
โช Compile review files for weeding
โช Create patron expiration lists to export into a mail merge
โช Items that havenโt circulated
โช Use in conjunction with Statistics
11. SEARCH RANGE FEATURE
Instead of searching the catalogโฆ
โช create a review file in create lists and browse through the list using the
search range feature.
โช Peruse a list in a more browse-friendly way.
โช Make changes and move on quickly.
โช Tools>Search>Range
15. HIGH DEMAND HOLDS
Creates a report which identifies titles that have a
large number of holds.
โช Found in Function Menu
โช View system holds or local holds
โช Browse within Sierra Desktop App
โช Ability to export lists
โช Manage your acquisitions using HDH
โช Create a most popular list for your patrons
19. REINSTATE FINE
A fine can be reinstated in all instances, except:
โช Any Manual charge added as a fine
โช Adjustment charges for billed rental items
โช Any library notice printing charges
โช Any charge with a payment status of Adjustment
โช When in a patron account, review the Fines Paid history in the Fines
Tab.
โช View the Fine and select the Reinstate Fine button.
21. MERGE DUPLICATE PATRONS
If you have an instance where two patron accounts are for the same
individual, merge them together using Merge Duplicate Patrons, which
can be found in the Functions menu.
โช Find two identical (similar) patrons and note their patron record #s
โช The primary account will have the secondary accounts information
added to it and the secondary will be deleted.
โช All notes, fines, holds, etc. will be moved over to the primary account.
โช Write down the primary accountโs patron record
number โ this will be your Destination Record.
โช Write down the secondary accountโs patron
record number โ this will be your Source Record.
24. LINKING PATRONS
โช Link patron accounts for:
โช Families
โช Classrooms
โช Book groups
โช Business accounts
โช Allows you to quickly jump between accounts
โช Makes paying fines for multiple accounts easier
27. EMAILING A RECEIPT
โช Want to save paper?
โช Tired of changing out rolls or reams of paper?
โช Want to cut office/equipment costs?
Change your receipt printer settings to email
โช Patrons will receive their receipts in their email
โช i.e. payments, checked out slips, holds list, etc.
โช Patrons who want a printout can easily have one without you going
back and forth to the printer settings each time a patron comes to
the desk.

EXISTING SEARCHHow often have you seen another library creating a list that you would like to do for your library? Find an empty review file>select search records>click on Use Existing Search>scroll through the list until you find the one you want to mimic>select OK>adjust the parameters of the search to reflect your library information.
