What is energy??
Energyis the ability an object has to
perform a task. It makes everything
happen. It makes machines work. It makes
our body to move.
Energy is Indestructible!

TYPES OF ENERGY
ELECTRICALENERGY
LIGHT ENERGY
SOUND ENERGY
KINETIC ENERGY
THERMAL ENERGY
CHEMICAL ENERGY
NUCLEAR ENERGY
5.
ELECTRICAL ENERGY
We useELECTRICAL ENERGY
everyday. In Light bulls and in
things that use batteries.
6.
LIGHT ENERGY
In thingsthat produce light.
Things like the Sun, traffic
lights and candles give off
light.
7.
SOUND ENERGY
Made byvibrations. Eg.
Vocal chords, speakers and
musical instruments, noisy
students (like you!)
8.
KINETIC ENERGY
In movingthings. When we
ride a bike we turn chemical
energy from the food we eat
into kinetic energy.
9.
THERMAL (HEAT) ENERGY
Itproduces heat. The sun
produces lots of thermal
energy and heats our planet.
10.
CHEMICAL ENERGY
With achemical reactions. EG:
food. Our body turns this
energy into thermal or kinetic
energy.
11.
NUCLEAR ENERGY
Energy isstored in the
nucleus of atoms. When the
nuclei are joined together or
split apart, NUCLEAR
ENERGY is released. Eg.
nuclear power plants.

types.
ENERGY
Challenge- Explain why you think it’s that
type of energy.
1. A caris moving (_______ energy)
2. The engine is hot (______ energy)
3. The headlights are on( ______ energy)
4. It is making a lot of noise ( _____ energy).
5. Inside the car battery are chemicals (_________ energy)
which store energy.
6. There are lots of wires which pass (__________ energy) to
the controls.
7. The car seat is springy (________ energy)
8. If the car is left on a hill without the handbrake on it will roll
down because of (______________ energy).

Challenge- Identify what energy transfers are useful and
wasteful
For each example observe what happens and try to identify the
different energies. What happens to the energy in each example?
Answer the two questions for each in your book.

A generator
It comes fromthe ground or the seabed. We use
drills to extract it. Crude oil is processed into
petrol. We burn petrol and produce thermal
energy.
Crude Oil
45.
It is amixture of gases that we obtain from the
ground or seabed using drills. Ww burn it to
produce thermal energy.
Natural Gas
46.
It comes fromthe ground. We mine it and burn it
to produce thermal energy.
