What is energy??
Energy is the ability an object has to
perform a task. It makes everything
happen. It makes machines work. It makes
our body to move.
Energy is Indestructible!
TYPES OF ENERGY
ELECTRICAL ENERGY
LIGHT ENERGY
SOUND ENERGY
KINETIC ENERGY
THERMAL ENERGY
CHEMICAL ENERGY
NUCLEAR ENERGY
ELECTRICAL ENERGY
We use ELECTRICAL ENERGY
everyday. In Light bulls and in
things that use batteries.
LIGHT ENERGY
In things that produce light.
Things like the Sun, traffic
lights and candles give off
light.
SOUND ENERGY
Made by vibrations. Eg.
Vocal chords, speakers and
musical instruments, noisy
students (like you!)
KINETIC ENERGY
In moving things. When we
ride a bike we turn chemical
energy from the food we eat
into kinetic energy.
THERMAL (HEAT) ENERGY
It produces heat. The sun
produces lots of thermal
energy and heats our planet.
CHEMICAL ENERGY
With a chemical reactions. EG:
food. Our body turns this
energy into thermal or kinetic
energy.
NUCLEAR ENERGY
Energy is stored in the
nucleus of atoms. When the
nuclei are joined together or
split apart, NUCLEAR
ENERGY is released. Eg.
nuclear power plants.
Progress Check- Name that energy

It comes from the ground or the seabed. We use
drills to extract it. Crude oil is processed into
petrol. We burn petrol and produce thermal
energy.
