People built castles for protection and defense. Many castles are associated with legends about royalty and warriors from the past. Some castles, like Windsor Castle, are famous for their paintings and treasures they house. Windsor Castle is said to be full of ghosts of past kings and queens and receives many visitors. Other notable castles mentioned include Balmoral Castle, where Prince Albert built for himself and Queen Victoria, and locations like the Tower of London and castles linked to King Arthur that have legends associated with them, such as Merlin living in tunnels under Tintagel Castle.

Many castles tell legends about witches, ghosts, queens,
kings and legends of warriors.
Some castles are famous because they have got a lot of
paintings. For example:
WINDSOR CASTLE
This castles is full of treasures and
paintings. But it is also full of ghosts
of kings and queens. A lot of people
visit it .
Others castles: BALMORAL CASTLE
This castle is in England and
Prince Albert built it in 1856.
He and his wife Queen
Victoria lived in this castle.

2. THE TOWER OF LONDON
This building has got two
towers. There are guards
in special black and red
uniforms at the Tower.
There are castles that have got legends:
KING ARTHUR`S CASTLES.
A legend says that Merlin lived in
Tintagel. There is a tunnel under
the castle and many people think
that the ghost of Merlin lives there.
Another legend says that King
Arthur is asleep in the tunnels
under Richmond Castle.
Some castles are related to old ghosts, so some people are
frightened when they listen to these legends.
