Summary: Read, connect and disconnect electric meters ‐ by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Follows a monthly and daily serviceman schedule performing daily connects and disconnects. Ability to
read dial and digital display meters accurately and with the use of binoculars. Arranges service orders to
be completed in a timely manner; includes the ability to read a map and proper use of two‐way radio
procedures.. Able to climb and safely use a ladder to access Cooperative equipment.
Works closely with the Collections Department, scheduling and performing non‐pay disconnects; ‐
makes field trips for non‐pay accounts, disconnecting and reconnecting services for non‐pay residential
and commercial accounts. Ability to understand and communicate with and answer customers ‐
questions regarding their electric bill, service charges and SSVEC practices and procedures. Collects
payments in the field. May be required to perform cut‐out procedures involving removal and
reinstallation of fuses.
Must successfully complete the SSVEC Qualification Checkout Card (QCC) including but not limited to
identifying system voltages, properly identifying load break and non‐load break cutouts, demonstrating
safe work practices utilizing a Telescopic Hot Stick to install and close in a fuse holder into a cutout and
pulling a fuse holder from a cutout.
Inspects meters ‐ for unauthorized connections, defects and damage such as broken seals‐. Reports to
appropriate departments any problems such as meter or service irregularities, damaged equipment, or
impediments to equipment access, including dogs ‐ for necessary action.. Capable of knowing voltages
and testing voltage on residential and commercial meter bases.
Assists in reviewing Pre‐bill reports. Ability to read and recognize meter reading variances, verifying
readings in cases where consumption appears to be abnormal, and record possible reasons for
fluctuations ‐ Has knowledge of IVUE billing system with ability to access multiple screens to make meter
reading corrections, note accounts with recognized discrepancies for appropriate follow‐through. Works
with customers’, leaving messages to arrange different times to access meters or equipment in cases in
which they are not accessible.
Must possess the temperament and ability to work with the pressures of customers’ negative remarks
and reactions. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, either verbally or in
writing to positively represent the Cooperative and obtain the desired results. Diplomacy, sound
judgment and persuasiveness are required.
