The kooks – Naïve
The video to the ‘naïve` is a performance based video and also links the performance base into a narrative story. The narrative is based on the day in the life of a male, the kooks lead singer. As the story to the video goes on, the audience gathers the idea that the story is based on the next day in the life of the male, as he seems to have separated to another female featured in the video. The song ‘naïve’ is based on the personality of the female as the principle character shows he still has feelings for the female but is unable to let his feelings out. In the meantime he appears to keep a look out for the female as he may still love her and doesn’t want her to let him down due to the bad state she is in as the video continues.
The video opens to a shot of the male walking down the staircase of a possible block of flats. The opening shot is used effectively as the location seems run down as we are able to see possible rubbish in the background of the shot and the wall colors are very plain and seem as if they are uncared for. This straight away is used to represent the target audience for the band as the audience are of a very urbanized middle class and could allow the target audience to relate to the band as they have the same living conditions. As the shot tracks the principle character on from the shot, the lead singer seem to step through into a very run down kitchen and dirty kitchen, This represents the urbanization of the audiences living conditions well and can be used to follow on from the representation of the band being the same as their audience through their backgrounds.
The representation of the artist and other band members are also effective in relating the band back to their audience and presenting the bands style for their target audience to follow. The artist of the band is typically presented from the set of the video, as he is clothed in tight fitted yet ragged clothes, which relates back to the style of the audience and follows the commonly similar costumes for the music video. The artist is presented in skinny type jeans and also in a tight but uncared for looking leather jacket. A number of close up shots are also used effectively to represent the facial image of the band as the lead singer is presented with long curly hair which again ties back to the image of the audience as the style is seen commonly throughout the indie genre audience.

Lighting is also used effectively throughout the music video to represent the mood of the shots included in the music video. The majority of the music video Is based in a dark, shadowed low key lighting which represents the mood as bad and possibly upsetting. This relates to the theme of the narrative of these shots as the story is based on an upsetting time following on from a possible breakup in the relationship of the two principle characters. Although the general shots of the music video are in a dark setting and represent a bad mood, some shots are set in high key lighting and are use to represent flash backs of when the boy and girl were in love. This is effective as the lighting is used to represent a good mood and relates the shots back to a good time when the boy and girl were together and happy.

Editing is also used through the music video as editing is used to relate the pace of the cutting rhythm to the pace/tempo of the music. As the music video progresses the cutting rhythm seems to speed up as at the same time the pace of the music begins to increase.
