2. The CAR
Sectarian fighting between the Muslim Seleka and
the Christian Anti - Balaka groups
The Security Council has authorised EU troops to
use force to quell violence in the CAR, and has
expanded the peacebuilding mandate in the
country.
Building upon the current arms embargo, the
council also deployed asset freezes and travel
bans to halt military growth in the country.
3. Burundi
Current political violence and intra-party conflict
Ban Ki Moon has proposed to extend the UN
mission to Burundi for another year.
The head of the UN office Burundi wants the UN
mission to end before the crucial elections
4. Ukraine
On the brink of civil war
Both Yanukovych and parliament have failed to
strengthen the economy and tackle corruption
Yanukovych offered to appoint head of opposition as
Prime Minister, but protesters want him gone
After this rejection, parliament passed anti-protest
laws
These laws inhibit NGO actions, meaning the rights
and freedoms of political freedoms of Ukrainians are
stifled
UN reiterates the need for democracy and political
cooperation from Ukraine officials, but are yet to act
otherwise
