Lesson-01
Krishna explains to Arjuna in this chapterabout various
aspects of the body, soul and Supersoul.
WHY ARE WE IN THIS WORLD AND WHY DIFFERENT
SOULS HAVE DIFFERENT BODIES?
We, the souls, are originally the residents of spiritual
world. But because we developed desire to enjoy
separately from Krishna, each one of us are given material
body according to our individual desires and our previous
karma. In this body, everyone enjoys or suffers fruits of
his actions. Our actions decide our destiny.
Just as in a field we sow seeds and in due course of time
we get the fruits or the grains. Similarly with the body, we
perform many activities which are like seeds and in due

2. course of time we get the fruits of those seeds in the form
of reactions. (Both activities and its reactions are referred
to as karma) But one must understand that the farmer or
the knower of the field (the soul) is different than the field
(the body). And just as a farmer knows only his own field
but the king knows all the fields in his kingdom, similarly
a soul is aware of his own body but Krishna, in His form
as the Supersoul, is aware of all the bodies.
