3. INTRODUCTION:
Automatic Street light Control System is a simple yet powerful concept,
which uses transistor as a switch. By using this system manual works
are 100% removed.
By using this system energy consumption is also reduced.
6. LDR
A light dependent resistor (LDR) is a special type of resistor that reacts to
changes in light level.
In darkness a LDR can have a higher resistance while in brightness the
LDR will low resistance
7. RESISTOR
Resistor is a device which offers opposition to the flow of current.
In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce current.
The SI unit of electrical resistance is ohm.
8. LED
A light emitting diode(LED) is a semiconductor device that emits visible
light when an electric current passes through it.
It is a p-n junction diode that emits light when suitable current is applied.
The color of light is determined by the energy band gap of semiconductor.
9. TRANSISTOR
It is a semiconductor device used to amplify or switch electronic signals
and electrical power.
It is composed of semiconductor material with three terminals for
connection to an external circuit namely: emitter, base, collector
11. WORKINGPRINCIPLE:
The automatic streetlight control system operates on 6or9V DC supply. LDR is used in the
circuit which acts as transducer.
LDR offers very high resistance in darkness. In this case the voltage drop across the LDR is
more then 0.7V which is more efficient to drive the transistor into saturation region. In
saturation region collector current is very high because of this the LED is switched ON.
LDR offers very low resistance in brightness. In this case voltage drop across the LDR is
less than
0.7V due to which transistor
will be in cut-off region.
In cut-off region collector current
will be zero so LED will remain
switched OFF.
12. ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES:
No need of any manpower for
maintenance.
This system will automatically
control the switch ON/OFF.
Low power consumption.
Require careful shielding.
LDR’s are unable to detect low
light levels and may take a few
seconds to operate.
13. EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The main aim of this project is automatic street power saving system with
LDR, this is to save the power.
We want to save power automatically instead of doing manual. The saved
power can be used in some other cases.
14. APPLICATIONS:
It can be used in areas where manual switching is difficult such as hilly
areas and dense paths.
It is used as energy efficient lightning technique for the streets.
It can be used on roads which reduces the accidents.
Street lights can be used for increasing public safety in areas that people
use, such as bus stops in the night time.
