2. SunGuard EC Technical Information
SunGuard EC lets you make the most of changing needs and conditions, transitioning
between clear and tinted glass. This optical versatility is made possible by a solid-state
coating applied directly to surface #2 of the insulated glass unit. Activated by a low-
voltage electric charge, layers of metal oxide within the coating change between four
tint states. Integration with the building’s electrical system is simple. SunGuard EC can
be controlled by building users or a building management system.
How it works
In its clear state, SunGuard EC transmits more When fully tinted, SunGuard EC cuts the
than 60% of available natural sunlight and has transmission of sunlight to 2% and lowers the
a 0.47 solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC)— SHGC to 0.09, keeping interior spaces cool,
exceeding the passive solar heating capability reducing glare and minimizing the need for
of typical low-E glass. blinds that block the view.
