2. Candy Striping
Last year I became a candy striper at Royal Inland
Hospital. Candy Stripers are teenagers ages 15-18 who
volunteer on each hospital floor. Our uniforms consist of
black dress pants, closed toe shoes, a red polo T-shirt, and
our badge that proves we are registered volunteers.
3. My Experience
Last year I volunteered on Pediatrics, also known as 5south. My job consisted of folding laundry, tidying and
sanitizing the playroom, decorating the ward for each
holiday or event, clear bedsides of clutter, and doing
random jobs that needed to be done. Occasionally, I would
go down to Day Care Surgery when my floor work was
slow. Although I didn’t get to interact with the patients
themselves, having a clean environment due to my
volunteer help definitely benefitted them. A stay at the
hospital can be scary, so people shouldn’t have to worry
about little things like when their laundry is getting done. In
total, I volunteered 42 hours last season.
