2. WHAT IS A ROMANCE?
A romance is a love story, they focus on passion, emotion and
affection. Love is seen as a journey as characters in a romance
strengthen their relationship through dating, courtship, etc. Often,
romantic films explore the essential themes of love at first sight, high
school sweethearts , obsessive love, sentimental love, forbidden love,
etc.
Often, romances end on a “happily ever after” and a final kiss.
3. THE HISTORY OF ROMANCE
The first ever romantic film was said to be produced by Thomas
Edison and had only lasted a total of 18 seconds. The short film was
called “The May Irwin Kiss" it was filmed in 1896 in April in New
Jersey; at the tomes, it was the most popular Edison Vitascope film of
1896. Famous, historical romance films include Titanic, Jane Eyre,
Romeo and Juliet, Gone With The Wind, etc.

5. WHY WE CHOSE A ROMANCE
AND WHAT INSPIRED US
As a pair, we figured a romance will be extremely hard to pull off
however we also realised that if filmed and edited well with a good story
line, it would be a great success. As the director, I felt I would be able to
relate more to a romance thus adding to the reason as to why we chose a
the genre. Many things inspired us when coming up with the idea, such as
“Sliding Doors”, “Just My Luck” and “About Time”; even real life
situations that I had found myself to be in allowed me to add on to the
ideas.
