QUINTA DE SAESTUESDAY
QUINTA D. MARIA
It is a lady’s farm located in
Seia. It produces different
types of traditional cheese
and products of our region.
For a long time, handmade
cheese production was the
predominant economic activ-
ity in the Serra da Estrela.
Today, with the industrializa-
tion, production of the cheese
is made in large quantities
and the experience and
knowledge of making cheese
is only in the oldest people’s
hand.
For six decades ARA
has been renowned for a wide
variety of shoe fashions of the
highest quality, combining at-
tractive design with perfect fit.
This shoe factory employs many
people and it´s important for the
development of the city. Seia
became one of the most techno-
logically advanced production
unities of the group.
Saes Farm has more
ancient origins, the earliest refe-
rences date back to 1258. The
presence of viticulture and far-
ming is also very old: 1527
records show that Saes paid a
fee of 80 wine barrels to the
King every year.
The vineyards are between 3
and 65 years old, are located at
an average altitude of 550 m.
The total area is 60 hectares,
which are planted on granite
base soil with rows of sand and
clay and the typical varieties of
the region are: Encruzado, Cer-
cial, Touriga Nacional, Tinta
Roriz, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and
Berry.
