2. What are ethics?
Ethics are a guide to good, professional practice in journalism,
which provide journalists high standards to maintain in work.
3. Why are these ethics needed
in Journalism?
Guidelines and standards are needed so journalists don’t
publish articles that are misleading, or that’ll affect their
credibility.
So as not to be misleading, the journalists have to be accurate
and unbiased in their stories.
There are more, basic guidelines in which journalists have to
follow…
5. 1. Truth and Accuracy:
Journalists must always look, and report facts for their articles. They
must present the correct information, and do things such as making
sure the photos haven’t been distorted. Reporting anything false
would have to be followed up by an apology, and a correction of their
wrongdoing.
2. Independence
Journalists shouldn’t act on their own political, or special interests.
They should let their editors and their audience know about any of
their political affiliations, financial arrangements or other personal
information that might create a conflict of interest.
6. 3. Minimize Harm
Journalists should make sure to not publish hurtful or sensitive topics that
could cause harm. They should be aware of what hurts others and show
compassion for the people of interests.
4. Accountability
Journalists should accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each
other.
When a mistake has been made, the journalist has to be held accountable for
their actions, and make sure to apologize sincerely.
