The document discusses how the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) categorizes films by age rating to provide guidance about suitable audience and content. Films are examined by two censors and sometimes a senior censor to determine if it should receive a U, PG, 12A, 12, 15, or 18 rating based on factors like language, sexual content, violence, and substance use. Examples given are Paranormal Activity 2 receiving a 15 for graphic scenes and violence, The Hunger Games a 12A for some violence and emotional upsetting scenes, and Tangled a PG for frightening scenes, violence and flirty scenes.

2. THE CATEGORISATION OF FILMS
In order to protect children from unsuitable and even harmful content in
films and videos and to give consumers information they might need
about a particular film or video before deciding whether or not to view it,
the BBFC examines and age rates films and videos before they are
released. This is independent scrutiny prior to release ensures the
highest possible level of protection and empowerment.
Typically, two examiners view a film for theatrical release. In most cases
a Senior Examiner will confirm the examiners’ recommendation. But if
the Examiners are in any doubt or fail to agree, or if important policy
issues are involved, the work may be seen by other members of the
Board up to the Chief Executive and Presidential team. Occasionally
they may need to take specialist advice about the legal acceptability of
film content or its potential for harm.

Violence and
Flirty scenes.
5. MY TARGET AUDIENCE
I've decided to set my target audience from 15-20 years old
because I feel like 16 year old are able to cope with the violent
and gory scenes and also a lot of 15+ year olds are interested in
watching horrors which is why we wanted a wider range for our
target audience.
I decided to ask opinions of people in my year at college to figure
out if the age range was either too wide or of the right range. I
enjoyed doing this because I was able to gain opinions of a
younger audience when asking them to compare my film to some
of their favourite horror films. From this I received a lot of positive
feed back which helped me decide and stick with my age range of
being from the age 15 to 20.
