1. The Church of Ireland church at Aghafad
This church was built in 1727. The Shirley family provided the
money for the building. A road was constructed to the Glebe House,
then home of the Protestant Minister in Essexford. The church
continued to provide a centre of worship until the 1950’s. A clean –
up of the church grounds in 1991 revealed the tomb of Norman
Steele, from Monalty House, the agent for the Shirley estates. The
last burial took place in 2007.
