3. PARTICIPATION OF THE PEOPLE
The council requests for the active involvement of the
people in the celebration of the Eucharist along with the
priests, with correct understanding of the rites and
prayers of the liturgy.

The council states the need to make necessary change
in the rite of the mass with due care taken to preserve
their substance and to discard the unnecessary
elements.
5. Importance of the liturgy of the
Word
Covering the entire scripture through the mass
readings, within a prescribed number of years.
6. Homily
Purpose
To communicate to the people, the message of the
scripture
It is considered as essential part of the Eucharist and
should not be omitted on Sundays and other
important days.
7. Prayer of the faithful
Prayer must be made for the following intentions
For the church
For civil authorities
For mankind
For all in need
8. Role of the Vernacular language
Importance is given to the mother tongue in the mass
readings, common prayers and certain parts of the
Eucharist where people participate.
9. To participate more effectively people are
welcomed to receive the Lord’s body.
The council leaves the choice for the bishops to
determine the form in which communion can be
granted to the faithful.
A special appeal is made by the council to the
priests to teach people to take part in the entire
mass on Sundays and days of obligations.
