2. Introduction
There are seven ways to tell living things apart from non
living things they could be called Mrs Gren. They are
Movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth reproduction
, excretion and nutrition . if things show these features
they must be living things. If living things did not show
these features they wont be alive.
3. Growth
We need growth desperately to stand up to enemies
and dangerous predators. As we don’t want to be at
the bottom of the food chain. Every single little thing
grows. Even plants grow up to the sun because the sun
is one of those things that they need to survive. And
Nutrition is another.
4. Nutrition
All living things need nutrition. Imagine a world without
it. Nutrition ,known as food. If living things did not have
any food we could only survive one week without it.
Plants get their nutrients from the sun. As the sum
moves above the sky they move with it , absorbing the
suns rays and creating chlorophyl.
5. Movement
Without movement we would die. Think about it ,if I
stayed in the same spot I couldn’t just go to the
cupboard and grab a bite to eat, because I cant move!
Also imagine if a predator is right in front of you your
part of the food chain and also dead meat! Plants move
up to the sun because they need its rays to make food.
6. Sensitivity
There are all sorts of sensitivity such as: feel, sight,
scent, taste and touch. All of us also have sensitive
taste buds. Even plants can be sensitive. Its not like it
wouldn’t hurt if I pulled a leaf off a plant. Even thought
it will properly grow it back. Sensitivity helps us to be
safe, if we didn’t have sensitivity then all our predators
would come after everybody without them knowing.
7. Reproduction
Reproduction. We all do it. Plants make seeds, humans
create babies, horses have foals, dogs have puppies,
cows have calves. Without reproduction we would all
be extinct because there would be nothing to continue
our species and the amount of living things would drop
down to zero. All that would be left on the world would
be non- living things such as liquids, mountains and
gasses.
8. Respiration
We all breath , humans and animals breath oxygen
and plants breath carbon dioxide. If all living
things hold there breath they would all eventually
die. For humans and animals it goes through our
nose to our lungs and out our mouths. Plants
breath carbon dioxide through their roots and
excrete oxygen. If humans did stop breathing no
blood will be pumped around their bodies and the
heart wont pump. If the heart stops humans would
have a heart attack.
9. Excretion
Excretion is all about getting rid of chemical waste. Plants
get rid of theirs by shedding their leaves . While humans
and animals on the other hand , do wee and poo or urine
they have stored up in their bladder once its full we will let
it out by going to the toilet. If we did not do this proses we
would be constipated and become very sick breathing.
