A rock formation referred to as Elephant Head is located just east of Crawford Notch AMC.
Thank goodness for the visionaries such as the Crawford’s. Abel and his son, Ethan Allen built the first Crawford House as a place for travelers to stay back in 1829. Even though fire destroyed the buildings, it certainly didn’t diminish the determination of many to accommodate travelers. This is the same area where the AMC in Pinkham Notch still houses and welcomes travellers almost two centuries later.
Willey left leave the confines of their home one fateful night; if they had stayed in the house instead of fleeing they all would have survived the avalanche.
The Willey family burial plot is located in Intervale, NH and the owners of the property allow anyone to go into the grave yard.
Waters flowing from the Silver Cascade Waterfall just east of AMC in Crawford Notch flow into the headwaters of the Saco River. You can pull up the pump handle and drink fresh water from the Saco standing right next to First Bridge in North Conway.
