1. '...scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight.'
~David Livingstone
In early November 1855, Livingstone traveled down the Zambezi River to see for himself the area
the natives called "smoke that thunders." Approaching the spot in canoes, the party could see
the columns of spray and hear the thunderous roar of water miles away from the falls.
2. It's hard to believe that August is already here! Do you have plans for the fall? If
you are feeling the itch of getting out there and exploring the world, we have a
few suggestions for you this fall! Join us for a wild ride on the Zambezi that
wouldn't be complete without wildlife viewing, soak in the culture of Bhutan or
explore the Himalaya of Nepal with a trek to the Tamur River with Stan Ricketts!
A Letter from the Owners
Dear Adventure Traveler,Dear Adventure Traveler,
Thank you for your interest in Bio Bio Expeditions!
In 1992, we launched Bio Bio Expeditions based on our genuine love for travel and a desire to
explore the most beautiful and remote spots on the globe. Our adventure travel company has grown
in size and scope from our first initial trips on the Bio Bio River in Chile to include multi-faceted
adventure travel vacations in hand-picked destinations worldwide including Patagonia: Chile &
Argentina, the Zambezi River and onTanzania's Kilimanjaro in Africa, Bhutan in Asia, Machu Picchu
in Peru, and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
Our goal at Bio Bio Expeditions is to share our expertise and our love of wild places with our guests
with unsurpassed enthusiasm. As the co-founders of Bio Bio Expeditions, we are directly involved
with every aspect of your adventure travel: from the original trip planning, to picking well-appointed
lodges, greeting our guests, captaining paddle boats, training guides, by incorporating the locals into
our trips, or by cooking river side feasts and teaching kayaking! We wear many hats and have
undying passion for what we do!
We ask people who have traveled with us what genuinely sets Bio Bio apart. They tell us that it's
beyond exotic destinations, great guides, good food, and accommodations. They reminisce about
the magical chemistry of adventure and camaraderie. They tell us it is about discovery of not only
wilderness, but of themselves, and about renewing their enthusiasm for life. They say it's to be far
away and yet feel totally at home... and to come back and find their lives and perspectives changed
forever.
Our Bio Bio adventure vacations are led by a crew of international rafting and kayaking, and trekking
superstars who are establishing a new standard of excellence in the outdoor adventure industry.
They are known for their friendly, caring hospitality and their knowledge of the culture, history and
ecology in the many countries we visit. Safety is always a priority and we were proud to have been
chosen to be the official safety team for the 2000 International Whitewater Challenge on
the Futaleufu River in Chile.
