The end of the First World War marked the climax of the Golden Age of Postcards (1900-1919), the period when sending and collecting postcards was the number one hobby in the world. The British Army mail service dealt with millions of postcards being sent to and by servicemen every week. Every country involved in the conflict printed their own sets of postcards, showing every conceivable subject, relevant to their situations at the time. The importance of this form of communication in war time cannot be understated. This presentation looks at Great War Postcards that deal with topics as diverse as propaganda, humour, War at Sea, Land and in the Air, commercial advertising, pin-ups and real photographs.
