3. introduction
What is crude oil distillation?
A crude oil distillation process is the process of hea
ting crude oil and passing the vapor through a ves
sel to separate out different compounds, known as
fractions.
In the crude oil distillation process, the crude oil is
heated to 400°C and separated into fractions on 30-5
0 fraction trays in a distillation column.

Crude oil distillation products:
Lighter products Mid-range products The heaviest products
Lighter products:
such as butane and other liquid petroleum gases
(LPG), gasoline blending components, and naphth
a, are recovered at the lowest temperatures.
10. introduction
The heaviest products:
Such as bitumen are recovered at temperatures sometimes
over 600C
bitumen
is a substance produced through the distillation of crude
oil that is known for its waterproofing and adhesive
properties.
18. Some steps to manage hazards and risk
Spot the Hazard
Assess the Risk
Fix the Problem
Evaluate Results
19. Spot the Hazard
A hazard is anything that has the potential to cause injury, illness or
damage to your health….
The first step in ensuring a safe workplace is to identify
hazards. There are a number of ways to find hazards in your
workplace:
• ask workers and contractors in your workplace about any
hazards they may have noticed
• look at the physical structure of your workplace:
for example, stairs, desks, floor surfaces, exits, driveways
• check all machinery, appliances, and vehicles used for work
20. Assess the risk
A risk is the likelihood of a hazard causing injury, illness or damage
to your health.
Your list of hazards may be long, with some hazards posing more
safety risks than others.
So you need to work out which hazards are more serious than other
and deal with those first.
To assess the risk associated with each hazard,
21. Fix the problem
You should always aim to remove a hazard completely from your
workplace. Where this isn’t practical, you should work through t
he other alternatives systematically.
Some problems may be fixed easily and straight away, while oth
ers will need more effort and planning. Concentrate on the most
urgent hazards without neglecting the simpler ones that could be
easily and immediately fixed.
Some solutions are more effective than others. Make sure your so
lution does not introduce new hazards.
22. Evaluate results
After you think you’ve fixed the problem, find out
whether the changes have been effective. Get
feedback from those affected by the changes and
include them in any modifications to their workplace
or work routines. Look at your incident records
to see if numbers are going down.
23. Conclusion
the crude oil distillation process is the process of heating crude oil,
then we get many useful products, that made our life much easier,
and this process is used in equipment that called Atmospheric
distillation, where we heat our crude oil to about 700-750F (400C).
to get those useful products that we talked about, but this process
have some hazards to environmental or other things,
and we have to be careful when we're doing this process by thes
e ways that we talked about
