A patient recovering from dengue fever should get adequate bed rest and stay hydrated by drinking more than 8 glasses of fluid per day such as milk, fruit juice, oral rehydration solution, or barley water. Paracetamol can be taken for fever but no more than 4 grams per day. The home should be inspected for mosquito breeding sites which need to be eliminated, and mosquito repellent or nets can help avoid more bites during recovery. Seek immediate medical care if the patient experiences bleeding, frequent vomiting or diarrhea, abdominal pain, drowsiness, pale or cold skin, or difficulty breathing.
