1. 1. 21st September, 2007 Sahil Saini
 2. 2. Umardeep Singh Combination of UV+ Sediment Filter + Activated Carbon (Philips)

Advantages

1. UV is the most effective technology against waterborne virus, bacteria, parasites and amoebae.

2. Removes particulates, cysts & chlorine.

3. Removes volatile organic chemicals, and turbidity.

5. Leaves all minerals in water, just attacking the harmful substances

6. Very efficient technology – leads to 100% usage of water

7. Involves low power consumption

Disadvantages

Does not remove TDS (Totally dissolved solids)

 3. 3. Umardeep Singh

RO :

Advantages:

Desalination technology: Reduces TDS (Totally dissolved solids)

Removes impurities, Heavy metal reduction

Disadvantages:

Low efficiency: 80% water is wasted

Outcome is “De-mineralized water”

High energy consumption due to requirement of a booster pump

Does not guarantee micro-biological safety

Premature blockage under high turbidity conditions

Pinholes in membrane

 4. 4. Umardeep SIngh Purification vs Desalination

Purification is the removal/reduction of harmful substances, like particulates, chlorine, volatile organic chemicals, turbidity, bacteria, parasites, amoeba, cysts and viruses; while at the same time leaving the minerals in the water, intact. These minerals, in limited quantities, are needed by the human body for health and vitality

Desalination is the removal/reduction of the Total Dissolved Solids. Desalinated water is actually “de-mineralised water”. This water does not contain essential minerals that are required by the human body.

Desalination by RO technique does not ensure “safe” water, as there is no guarantee of removal of micro-bacterial matter.

 5. 5. Umardeep Singh How does the Philips Intelligent Water Purifier Work? Macro Filter Specially designed filter to remove Bigger particles from input water. It enhances the life of the dual filter by preventing premature clogging due to any blockage caused by these particles UV Chamber Advanced TUV PLS technology destroys known waterborne viruses, bacteria, parasites and amoebae giving you absolutely safe water

Dual Filter

Customized sediment and activated carbon filter removes:

Particulates and Chlorine

Turbidity

Volatile organic chemicals (VOCs)

Cysts

 6. 6. 21st September, 2007 Sahil Saini

UV light destroys DNA of waterborne bacteria, viruses and other microbes. Thus, the microbes are deactivated.

It involves the passage of water along the surface of a UV lamp

UV Dosage = Intensity X Time

How UV works

 13. 13. 21st September, 2007 Sahil Saini Certifications All 4 models of the Philips Intelligent Water Purifer are tested and certified by the following agencies based on the standards set by the National Sanitation Foundation (USA) and BIS (India) WQA Gold Seal Class A certificate: The Water Purifier can purify even untreated water from any source, provided the water is meant to be drinkable, eg river water, bore-well water, etc. and not sewage water. UV dosage is also higher at a min of 40 mJ/cm 2 . In comparison, most products of Eureka Forbes are only WQA Gold Seal Class B certified, which means these give a lower UV dosage of 16 mJ/cm 2 , and are certified to purify only previously treated water, ie. As an addition to purifying municipal supply of water.
 14. 14.
