Target Learners
 The target learners for this lesson
would be high school juniors or
seniors in an English/Language
Arts classroom
 The idea for this lesson came from
http://exchange.smarttech.com/sea
rch.html?subject=English+Languag
e+Arts in combination with a few
lessons that I have been apart of in
my previous high school
classrooms
Lesson Overview
 This lesson would take place at the end of a novel that the
class was reading together and would serve as a
review/summary of the facts of the text.
 The class would be split up into teams and asked questions
on the SMART board. The first team to tap the correct
answer on the board would get the point for that question.
 To further the understanding, the student who answered
correctly would then have to explain their answer with more
detail to potentially earn another point. The team with the
most points at the end wins the review game.
 If neither opponent knew the correct answer, they would be
allowed to return to their team to collaborate.
Universal Design
 This lesson plan includes the ideas of universal design in a
few ways. The SMART board allows for the visual learners
to be able to read the answer and see all of the options
while the question is still being read aloud for the audio
learners.
 Further Universal Design ideas are brought up with the
opponents are allowed to return to their teammates for help,
if necessary, to get the students to collaborate in occasion
group work while still asking them to work alone, as well.
 Finally, the request of the student to further explain their
answers with detail or example shows the students how to
focus on further understanding rather than the simple facts.
