Concept:Social facilitationchapter1
Social Facilitation occurwhenpeople are performinginthe presence of othersyetthe
individualcontributionscanbe identified.Social loafingalsosaidthata personcontribution couldn’t
identify whenthere isnosecondpartyonthe spot.
WhenI firstenteredTaylor’sUniversitythe lecturerrequiredustobe form ina group 5 and
do our assignment.ThusIhadan experience thatone of our groupmemberhe alwaysstayup late in
the architecture studio alone andgethispart to be done unlike the othergroupmember, wherewe
do our thingstogetherandhelpeachothertoget thingsdone faster. Thus, all of usactuallyfeltthat
hiscontributionthe ourgroupis verylessaswe can’t see whathe haddone or contribute tothe
groupwork and wheneverwe always assignedhimto doa work duringthe meeting he oftendrag
the work until lastminute andwhatcomesto the worse ishe neverattendsthe meeting.
My groupmemberandI decidedtospeakwiththe lecturertocomplain thathe actually
didn’tdoanythingandhe doesn’tdeserve togetthe same grade as us. Thus, the lecturercall up our
groupand ask us to do a peerevaluationtoevaluateeachmember.Inthe evaluationform,we are
requiredtolistdownwhatyouhave done to the group andwhat yourgroup memberhaddone.By
that time I realize thatactuallywhatI had done andwhat he had done were actuallyalmostthe
same and we shouldn’tcomplainingabouthimdoingnothing. It’sjustbecause he does hiswork
withoutanysecondpartythus hiscontributionto the groupcannot be identified.Basically, whatI
can conclude throughthisincidentisthatthe Social facilitation actuallyhappenshere andIwill
actually collectdatathat supportmy beliefanddisregarddatathatactually refute mybelief.

Concept:Motivation (Chap2)
Motivationisknown asthe processthatinitiates,leads,andmaintainsgoal-oriented
behaviors.Motivationiswhatleads ustoact, whetheritisgettingacup of waterto reduce the thirst
or readingandstudyinga bookto gain your knowledge. Itinvolvesthe emotional, social, biological,
and cognitive forcesthatinitiatethe behavior.Ineverydaylife, the word motivation isoften usedto
describe why apersondoessomething.Differenttypesof motivationare commonly describedas
beingeitherextrinsicorintrinsic. Inthisentry,Iwouldlike totalkaboutintrinsicmotivation.
I have beenforan art class at the same centerfor about14 yearssince am4 yearsold. The
Academiccentercouldsay to be my seconddwellingandthe teachersare like mybrothersand
sisters.Butunfortunately,eversince IstartedmyUniversitylife myschedule getsreallypacksoI
quit. However,IreallyenjoypaintingalotsoI sometimesgotothe centerand hangs around with
the kidsand teachesthemwheneverIhave the time.Nomatterhow tiredI wasor evenI don’tget
the pay, I’mjustwillingtoteachthe kidsbecause Ienjoyteachingthemdrawingandsee how they
startedimprovingdaybyday.Art had endedup part of my life andnevergetsawayfrommy life.I
go for itas my weeklyroutineorsometimestwice aweekif have the time.Bydoingthis,Ican relax

Concept:Assimilation(Chapter3)
Assimilationisdefined asa process whenakidis editingthe schemawithoutchangingthe
schema. For example babyalwaysthoughtall peoplehave the same colortone ashimyellowishbut
thenhe neverknowthere’sis people withtendskincolortone oreither peoplewhoare veryfairlike
albinoastheycome from different placeswhichare non-localpeople.Sowhenthe momenthe saw
those people whohave differentskintone ashim, basically anassimilationtake place usesan
existingschematoclassifyanewstimulus.
I rememberwhenIwasstill akidI firstthought a chairis simplyanythingwhere ucan justsiton
it andit has fourlegs,Ineverknewthatthere were varietyof chairsoutthere. One day, while my
parentsand I wenttoIKEA I startedto pointtowardthe furniture thatI thinkit’sa chair.I saw a
massage chair, there’schairthat allowyouto playgamesat the arcade center, andthere’schairfor
youto sit onit and workoutandthere isa chairthat allow youto laydownand enjoyedthe beach.
The Assimilationbasicallytake place inall thisexperience. FirstlyIthoughtthere’sonly1type of
chair inthe world,whichmeansbyassimilationactuallyhappenhere.Iactuallykeptchangingand
classify myschemaof a chair and slowlyaddingdetailstoitandfinally now Iknow whata chair
reallyis, howitlooklike, whatfunctionithas, what categorize itbelongsto.A chair simplymeans
that a furniture where ithasa comfortable surface tositon,it have fourlegsto supportanda back
for youto leanon.
Onthe otherhand,I alsoexperience thatwhenIfirstthoughof buildingitwasjustsimplya
huge buildingwitharectangularshape ina vertical way.Iwas amaze bywhat I have seenwhenI
firstvisitedtoChinawhenIwasyoung,as i saw a buildingthatwasshapedlike abirdnest. ThenI
saw a shaped- like boatona buildingatSingapore, andIevensaw a leaningtowerthatseemslikea
cylinderatAbudhabi. Thus, whenI’m youngmy firstschemaof a buildingwasjusta rectangular
shape and I neverknewthatitcouldbe in those special shapes. Assimilationactuallydidhappen
here where Istartedto collectimagesof unique buildingshape inmmindandthisis where Islowly
begintoeditmy schemaof a building

Concept:ConfirmationBias (Chap4)
I have always wondered where domybeliefsandopinionscome from.Ioftenthoughtthat I
am justlike the others, where we believe thatourbeliefsare basedon yearsof experiencesand
objective analysisof the informationthatare available. However, inrealityI’msusceptibletoa crafty
problemknownasa confirmationbias.Ioftenimagine andassume thatmybeliefsare logical,
rational, andobjective, butthe factisthat my ideasare oftenbasedonpayingattentiontothe
informationthatupholdsmy ideasandignoringthe informationthatchallengesmy existingbeliefs.
I was notbelieved ingodas I’mbasically afree thinker.Iwontfollow mymumormy dad to
the temple. Mydad isa Buddhistandsame goesformy mom.I always quarrel withmymumabout
thisissuesthusIam startingto collectdata and informationtosupportwhat Ibelieve on.When
Facebook or anysocial mediahave information aboutquestioningaboutthe existence of godIwill
actuallysenditto my motherand I eventuallywillpayattentiontothatkindof informationaswell. I
alwaysaskmy motherthere are Muslims,Buddhist,Christiananda lot, more,so whichof the godas
the true godbut everyreligionsaysthatonly theirgodisthe true god. Thus whenI receive any
informationorarticle aboutgodI will actuallyjustrejectthatkindof informationandactuallyignore
that information.Ibasicallywilljustdisregarddatathatthat refute ourbelieves.
So basicallyconfirmationbiasdidactually happenhereandIrealize thatinyourlife there isa
god itdependsonwhetheruchoose tobelieveornot.I didbelievethe existence of godasI got lots
prove that actuallyhappenstome.

Concept: Observational Learning (Chap5)
Observational learning cantake place at anypointin life, itused tobe the mostcommon
duringchildhoodaschildrenoften learnbyobservingthe surroundings behaviorandlearn.Italso
playsan importantrole inthe socializationprocess, aschildrenlearnhow tobehave andrespondto
othersby observinghowtheirparentsandothercaregiversinteractwitheachotherandwithother
people. Observational learningalsoappliestousevenwhenwe are adult.
WhenI firstcome to Taylor I wasconfuse onusingthe Printingmachine.Ithenobserve aroundhow
people use the machine. There are afewof printingmachine eitherinthe library’ssecondfloor,
24/7 studyroom or the computerlab locatedatblockC, level 7.Onthe othercaseswhichisalso
happenwhenIfirstenteredthisuniversityIwasconfusedonhow to use the studentportal to check
my timetable toknowwhatclassesamI havingnow andI actuallydidapplyobservationallearning
by peekingothersatstudentcenterhow tocheckthe timetable of myownandthus I learneditjus
by observingothers.Fromthere, they choosesthe filethathadbeensendearlier andjustprint, It’s
justthat easy!Throughobservational learning,Ifinallyget tolearnhow to use the printingmachine.
Observational learningisasocial learning thatfunctionasan individuallearns fromobservingthe
behaviors of othersandinturn behaves inthe similarmanner.
