Help your child succeed by being involved at home and school, creating a home study zone, and most importantly supporting their learning and development.
Teachers are not the only people that impact how our children succeed in life or school. The most important person that influences a child is the parent who takes an active and supportive part in seeing that they get the best education possible.
Parents, go to meet your children's teachers, not only if there is a problem but simply to check and see how things are going. See if there is something that you can do to help them do better, or simply to let the teachers know that you are interested in helping your child. Become a part of your children's regular study pattern. Look over their homework, help them with it, and see what you can learn as they are learning as well.
Create an area in your home for your child to study, it does not have to be a big fancy desk, the kitchen table, or a quiet spot in the house will work just as well. Set a time for the children to study each day, and be sure that they have all the supplies they need to complete their work.
Most importantly, be there for them. Encourage them and show them that you want to know not only what is going on on school with lessons, teacher and classes, but just to find out about friends and activities that interest them. Lightening the mood and letting them know that you are there for them helps to open the lines of communications for if there ever is a problem the children are more likely to come and talk to you.
