Market Overview of Medical Device Industry in first quarter 2013
The Indonesian economy growth, especially in consumers spending, has made
many investors enter to Indonesia market. One of the interesting industries is
medical device. Pharmaceutical experts said that medical device market had been
growing. In the last 2012, the growth rate of medical device was estimated about
5% higher compared to 2011.
It has been perceived that the growth of medical device was aligned with the
growth of pharmaceutical which is estimated by 10%. It was higher than Thailand,
Japan, South Korea, and Australia. It is around 7%, 2%, 7%, and 2% respectively.
However, Indonesia was still lower than China 21%, India 19%, and Malaysia 11%.
There are three main reasons, why the medical device industry has been growing.
The first reason is the increase of population, the income standard, and
consumer’s preference in spending for health reasons. The second driver is the
government’s regulation about the implementation of National Social Security
System (SJSN) that will drive the demand of health care provider. Hence, It has
been predicted that the medical device will keep increasing in the future.
The last reason is the growth of spending behavior of private health care providers.
They tend to purchase more on medical device since they would like to increase
their accreditation level, in order to offer more health services. Hence, they will be
able to increase their sales value by offering more complete and various health
services for public.
