19. … always go to a dedicated app and start over.
1. Close browser
2. Find app
3. Re-navigate to page
4. Hit ‘Buy ingredients’
20. The functions you saw are already working on dedicated
browser bookmarklets as well as on native apps.
All the ‘smart’ button needs to do is identify the function -
usually obvious from the URL - then look up and forward
the relevant information to the people you chose for that
particular job.
You don’t need nine different bookmarklets for nine
different jobs, or fifty different app tiles for fifty different
apps. If their functions are distinct, one button will do.
That’s what the next dozen slides are about.
21. Browser bookmarklets: cutting edge in 1995
‘Speed dial’ functionality, single click without leaving the page
• ‘Save this page for reading later’
• ‘Show me a price comparison for this item’
• ‘Launch a chat box’
• ‘Show me an unbiased search results page’
• ‘Find this movie on NetFlix’
22. Speed dial a price comparison: “Kulist”
Click on the
bookmarklet from
an Amazon page…
23. You can guess what happens next
Capture and parse for
relevant page data
… find and display a
better offer
27. Whatever the button says is what happens
1. Your browser forwards the data on your screen
2. They process it
3. They do whatever it says on the button
4. So you need a dedicated button for every function
5. Or you need to be on, or go to, a dedicated app
6. So most of us just use the page defaults
7. What they call a ‘walled garden’
8. Which sucks
29. Whatever the context says is what happens
1. Your browser forwards the data on your screen
2. We process it
3. We do whatever fits that data, your Profile and their Profile
4. So your favourite apps are as accessible as the page defaults
5. What they call ‘whatever-the-opposite-is-of-a-walled-garden’
6. Which doesn’t suck
30. As a recently filed patent describes it
Capture and parse
