FOOTWEAR
Trekking: Sport or canvas shoes are best for trekking. Don’t use PVC or plastic
soles as they slip on rock surfaces. Wear socks in order to provide cushioning &
avoid bad odour and blisters.
Tennis or Running Shoes - for approaches to climbs, day to day wear.
Socks (compulsory) - Use a couple changes both for your walking shoes and your
climbing shoes to avoid Blisters or fungi.
Climbing Shoes: In the early days and up to the middle of the 1950's, generally
the climbers wore iron-nailed boots or flimsy
rubber-soled plimsolls, then from France came
the "PA" (invented by Pierre Allan) which was an
excellent smooth-soled boot that was designed for climbing on rock, which
helped the climber to attempt more difficult grades.
A climbing shoe or kletterschuh is a piece of foot wear designed for rock
climbing. Typical climbing shoes have a
close fit, little if any padding, and a
smooth, sticky rubber sole ranging
from ankle boots to the low-cut
slippers with an extended rubber rand (extends up the side of the foot). Most
climbing shoes are very specialized, and are unsuited to walking and hiking,
so climbers carry them to the base of the rock and come in various shapes
and colours. They are usually worn one or half size smaller than usual for
firm & better grip
