1. MULTIPLES OF BASE NUMBER
M3 MasterMindMath > Subtraction > From Multiples of Base Number
LESSON TWO
2. Key Terms
Base number : In Vedic Math, it is a number that starts with 1 and is followed by 0
Example : 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000 and so on
Subtracted number : The number being subtracted from the base number
Example : In the problem 1000 – 6381; the subtracted number is 6381
Digits : The numerals for a number
Example : In 8520 there are 4 digits – 8, 5, 2 and 0
3. Subtraction From Multiples of Base Number
Example : 5000 – 853
•Base 1000 has a Multiple of 5
•Henceforth, 5000
Base Number is : 1 Followed By 0 (As in 10, 100, 1000…)
4. Subtract 1 from the 1st Digit
of Base Number
All From 9, Last From 10
5000
- 853
9 9 10
4147
Answer : 4147
5-1 = 4 / 9-8= 1 / 9-5= 4 / 10-3= 7
5000 - 853
5–1 = 4
5. Subtract 1 from the 1st
Digit of Base
All From 9, Last
From 10
8000
- 637
9 9 10
7363
Answer : 7363
• 8-1 = 7
• 9-6= 3
9-3= 6
10-7= 3
8000 – 637
Example - 1
8000 - 637
8-1 = 7
6. Subtract 1 from the 1st
Digit of Base
All From 9, Last
From 10
90000
- 0513
9 9 9 10
8948
7
Answer : 89487
• 9-1 = 8
• 9-0 = 9
9-5 = 4
9-1 = 8
10-3 = 7
90000 – 513
Example - 2
90000 -
0513
9–1 = 8
First, ADD Zero in front to Equalize 90000 - 0513
7. Subtract 1 from the 1st
Digit of Base
All From 9, Last
From 10
45000
- 396
9 9 10
4460
4
Answer : 44604
• 45-1 = 44
• 9-3 = 6
9-9 = 0
10-6 = 4
45000 – 397
Example - 3
45000 - 396
45-1 = 44
In case of Double Digits, while Following Minus One Rule, we Subtract
One from Two Digits (45-1 = 44)
8. Subtract 1 from the 1st
Digit of Base
All From 9, Last
From 10
6000
- 2145
9 9 10
3855
Answer : 3855
• 4-1 = 3
• 9-1 = 8
9-4 = 5
10-5 = 5
6000 – 2145
Example - 4
6000 - 2145
6-2 = 4
4-1 = 3
Digits in Second Number should Match Number of Zero’s in the Base Number (000 and 145)
The Rest are Subtracted (6-2 = 4) followed by the Minus One Rule from the Remainder (4-1 =
3)
9. Subtract 1 from the 1st
Digit of Base
All From 9, Last
From 10
20.00
- 14.96
9 10
5.04
Answer : 89487
• 6-1 = 5
• 9-9 = 0
10-6 = 4
$20.00 – $14.96
Example - 5
Adam’s grocery bill is $14.96. He hands over the cashier a $20.00 bill.
How much will he get back in change ?
20.00 – 14.96
20-14 = 6
6-1 = 5
