However, the current width of the road is inadequate to handle the
increasing number of vehicles using it, resulting in frequent traffic
congestion and accidents. This situation is especially challenging for
commuters who depend on the stretch between Padi and Thirunindravur for
their daily travel, with more than 1.1 lakh vehicles using this 22-km stretch
each day and close to 7,200 during rush hour.
To address this issue, the Tamil Nadu government proposed upgrading the
Chennai-Tiruttani-Renigunta State Highway to a six-lane road in 2007.

2. However, the project faced numerous hurdles due to land acquisition
issues, court cases, and disagreements between various departments,
leading to delays in its completion.
Despite these challenges, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
completed the work on 58 km of the road from Alamelurangapuram to
Thiruvanindravur. Now, the government has revived the project by taking
new steps towards land acquisition near Ambattur railway station, with an
additional 13 crore sanctioned for the process.
The acquisition of land near Ambattur is a crucial step towards completing
the project and widening the road to a six-lane corridor. Notices have been
issued to traders and residents in the area, and the government aims to
acquire the required land to ensure a smooth commute to Tiruttani and
Tirupati from Chennai.
Once completed, the project will not only benefit commuters but also boost
trade and commerce, as the widened road will improve connectivity and
reduce transportation time. The project's successful completion will be a
significant achievement for the state government and will provide much-
needed relief to commuters who currently face difficulties travelling on the
congested stretch of the road.
