The Sensex and Nifty were trading marginally lower due to
uncertainty over a tight US presidential election.US politics
overshadowed the Federal Reserve's November policy meeting
where it kept rates steady as expected and opened the door a
little wider to a rate rise next month.
The 30-share BSE index Sensex was down 34.31 points or 0.12
per cent at 27,492.91 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was
down 3.6 points or 0.04 per cent at 8,510.45.Among BSE
sectoral indices, FMCG index was up 0.27 per cent, auto 0.26
per cent, capital goods 0.11 per cent and consumer durables
0.04 per cent. On the other hand, PSU index fell the most by
1.04 per cent, oil & gas 0.92 per cent, infrastructure 0.91 per
cent and IT 0.57 per cent.
Top five Sensex gainers were Hero MotoCorp (+1.71%),ITC
(+0.97%), HDFC Bank (+0.58%), Bharti Airtel (+0.48%) and Bajaj
Auto (+0.45%), while the major losers were Tata Steel (-3.17%),
ONGC (-2.63%), Adani Ports (-2.22%), Asian Paints (-1.79%) and
Wipro (-1.52%).Asian shares were lower and the S&P 500
suffered its longest losing streak in five years on Wednesday, in
a reflection of the worsening risk appetite.
Foreign investors have been net sellers in India for eight
consecutive sessions as of Tuesday, including in a special
trading session on Sunday to mark the beginning of the Hindu
new year, unloading a net total of $703.8 million worth of
shares during that period.
