2. María Goretti, the future martyr of purity,
was born in Corinaldo, a town in the
province of Ancona, Italy

3. Dedicated since childhood to the Blessed
Virgin, she used to visit a small rural church
dedicated to the Immaculate Virgin.

4. To find a job that would give a better income,
the Goretti family left Corinaldo and moved
to Collegiantura in the Paliano area.

5. As the family grew, it was necessary to move
again from Collegianturio. The Goretti go to
Ferriere di Conca, 10 km from Nettuno

6. the Goretti family went to live on an old farm.
The Serenelli family lived with them being
united by an employment contract.

7. Life in Ferriere was very hard, continuous work in a terrible
climate, and almost no medical and religious assistance.

8. Barely fourteen months after arriving in Ferriere, Luigi
Goretti, Maria's father, died, attacked by malarial fever.

9. One sad afternoon the poor

land was buried in the small
cemetery of Ferreira di Conca.

father and whenever possible she
went to the cemetery to pray at the
grave of her beloved father.

reminding her of the goodness of divine Providence

by heart (without knowing how to read) she
was finally able to receive Jesus in her heart

days, she never forgot to visit the Sanctuary
of the Madonna delle Grazie.

going to get water from the fountain, but she tried by all means to escape from them.

threatened her purity was
Alexander Serenelli, but she,
always keeping her chastity,
continually rejected him.

15. Maria would have liked to receive Jesus frequently, but
the remoteness of the parish did not allow it: on the eve
of her death she had proposed to her friend Teresa
Cimarelli to go to Nettuno to receive Holy Communion.

28. In 1929 the mortal remains of Maria Goretti were solemnly transported from the
cemetery of Nettuno to the new Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie. Miraculous
and extraordinary events are attributed to the intercession of the martyr of purity

a severe form of pleurisy

30. The relatives of the patient went to venerate
the relics of Maria, displayed in a church in
Rome, and they brought with them some
flowers that had been beside the urn

Giuseppe Cuno, a worker, - during a
