Performance Management BUS 318 Performance Management In order for a team
to succeed, there is what we call performance management where in everyone is
expected to work and do their job as expected. Most successful companies out
there have their own plans, own performance management system to keep their
employees and teams in line with the goal of the company hence having the same
motivation, purpose and reason for working- to be on top of everything else. It
means though that there must be a good relationship between all forces involve
and not just the employees on the production area. The job must be created into
different categories with different people doing it and not with just one heading it. It
means having a hierarchy within the organization hence the management can do
its job, make decisions and provide ideas on how the group or team will succeed.
You can see this type of management on companies and universities where
performance management is always use to motivate employees and team
members to do their best. In the end, we will try to evaluate the way supervisors
and managers handle their team and check for possible areas for improvement.
There might be another way of managing a company or a team but performance
management is one of the most effective that we can have so far. Human labor is
one of the greatest strength of any organization or company. Yet it is hard to keep
a good and performing employee if they are not getting anything from the company
despite giving their best all the time. According to the Human Resource
Department of Indiana University, performance management can be defined as a
way for the management to remind their employees of their responsibilities and the
job they have accepted while at the same time motivating them to do their best
because they can get performance incentives if they will do their best

). The first question that we have to address though before making our own
performance management plan is to understand this- what is the purpose of
creating a performance management plan? This is the main question that
supervisors and managers must answer in order to have a good performance
management plan. There are successful companies that never had a performance
management like Sprint Nextel which lasted for more than a century before
designing their own performance management program. It is considered new back
then by the managers and they are wondering why it is needed now after 107
years? The management performance plan was devised after Sprint bought Nextel
which gave Sprint nothing but headache resulting to payment wrote off amounting
to $35B because Nextel lost all of its value in the stock market. Sprint customers
hate their provider and started leaving, employees are being laid off while the top
performers started leaving the company for others and they started losing money.
