The Jug Band Colline Metallifere in the context of Empowerment, Inclusiveness, and Equity
1. The Jug Band Colline Metallifere
in the context of Empowerment, Inclusiveness, and Equality
March 26, 2022 – ECSA EIE Monthly call
Jack O’Malley
(Andrea
Giacomelli/pibinko)
2. Concept
●
The Metalliferous Hills Jug Band (or Jug Band
dalle Colline Metallifere, JBCM, in Italian) is
an international and inter-generational
collective proposing a combination of music
and environmental practice, where melody,
rhythm, storytelling and outreach are merged in
one situation
3. Where is it based (for now) 1/2
●
In the
Metalliferous
Hills,
spanning
across the
provinces of
Grosseto,
Pisa, Livorno
and Siena
4. Where is it based (for now) 2/2
●
typical “Tuscan postcard” themes mixed with
mining legacy and geothermal “present + future”
5. Where does it come from
●
launched in 2018
●
three years of preparation (on top of ten previous
years of precursor initiatives) -
http://www.pibinko.org/music-and-rhymes/
●
different expertise by professionals with multiple
years of research experience on environmental,
territorial, rural, and musical issues.
7. From “geomusic” to “conce[r|p]ts”
●
In 2018: let’s call it “geomusic”. In 2020:
extension to “conce[r|p]ts
MUSIC
NON-MUSIC
Combination of design and improvisation
8. ...yet another dilemma...
●
Is it “improvising following a design” or
“designing with improvisation”?
●
...or “wha’evah’”
11. Where have we been
●
over 50 performances to date (
http://www.pibinko.org/jugbandcollinemetallifere/auftritte/)
●
alternating typical entertainment locations (conceRts) to
sets in universities and cultural centres (concePts).
●
This has generated curiosity with artists, researchers, and
the general public, with events to date in Tuscany,
Lombardy, Belgium, Germany, and online.
