This document discusses the objectives and work of the Open World project to increase awareness and acceptance of open source software (OSS). The project conducted surveys that found most people are unaware of what OSS is and its benefits. The project created a wiki website and forum to illustrate how to use common OSS alternatives for operating systems, office productivity, photo management, audio/video editing, and more. The summaries aim to explain what OSS is and provide easy guides for getting started with various open source options.

Editor's Notes
Our Aims We aim to encourage the freedom of software and promote the usage of Open Source Software (OSS). This will be achieved through the analysis of the general knowledge, usage, popularity and acceptance of OSS among the general public. Thus, the forum will serve as the portal for the sharing of information about OSS and of its promotion.
About US Our portal acts as a platform to illustrate the usage of Open Source Software (OSS) and highlight the benefits attained from its usage. We will serve as the link to all OSS users where non-users can also communicate and learn about OSS: what it is and what it entails. As such, a forum is set up for this sharing of information to be possible. Queries on and about this software will be discussed and answered through the open communication available on this platform
Why Open Source Software (OSS)? Did you know that more than 90% of the top 500 companies in the world run on an open source operating system? In fact, only 1% of these companies use Windows. If the top 500 companies use an open source operating system (mostly variants of Linux/Unix), then it should be safe to say that these operating systems are stable and optimized for performance. Many tend to think that Open Source Software is complicated and that it involves the risk of losing originality. However, they are misled, as they are unaware of what OSS can actually do and why it is really useful. Needless to say, there is reward achieved when contributing to an open source project since it motivates the circulation of ideas that can be built upon. This heightens the recognition attained, as we have to cite the original work of the rightful owner. Thus, it can be said that an “ego” satisfaction is achieved. As such, please note that originality is not at a loss. Open Source allows the free circulation and access of information for the betterment of knowledge where every detail can be up to date and accuracy can be achieved through correction since everyone can access it. Also, there will be no restriction and compatibility does not hinder the usage of the software. As such, there is smooth and efficient usage where patrons can communicate and share information regardless of the software company. For those who shun themselves away from OSS, they need to consider: What if everything crashes and there is no back up? (Since, technology keeps on advancing e.g. you hardly see the usage of tape recorder). Well lucky those who have patronized OSS as they need not worry; with Open Source it can be guaranteed that most information is stored safely. Thus, do not be enclosed and enslaved but rather be open to OSS and embrace the freedom.
Seriously, youre not really going to bank on “freedom to view the source code” as an advantage to laymen and businesses. You’re going to have to sell it on Free of charge.
