Thinking about knowledge
How do you know? (you do not have to give the answers, bur rather say how
you would find them out)

2. Your name?
3. What to eat?
4. What type of phone to buy?
5. That you attend Island School?

The ways of knowing
Can you recall the Ways of Knowing? Imagine that you had to explain
the ways of knowing to a Year 7 student. What would be the best way
to do this? There are now additional Ways of Knowing- Imagination,
Memory, Faith and Intuition. Take a look at this link to find out more
about these WOK’s- http://www.theoryofknowledge.net/ways-of-
knowing/
Can you provide an example of each Way of Knowing?
Tasks
Make a list or draw a diagram
that shows how the ways we
‘know’ the answers to the
questions (on the left) are
different?
‘Some ways of knowing are
better than others?’ What might
this statement mean?
Can you divide up the subjects
you learn (or topics you learn)
at school into how you know
the answers?
Do some questions have ’right’
answers and others have a
number of possible answers?
Why? As a class can you find
some things that you all totally
agree on? What sorts of things
are they? Can they be
categorized?
