1.02 EXTENT OF WORK
A. PROVIDE ALL LABOR, MATERIAL, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND SUPERVISION NECESSARY TO COMPLETE
THE INSTALLATION OF A .O60 NON-REINFORCED EPDM MEMBRANE FULLY ADHERED ROOFING SYSTEM
INCLUDING FLASHINGS AND INSULATION AS SPECIFIED HEREIN AND AS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S MOST CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS.
B. THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL BE FULLY KNOWLEDGEABLE OF ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE
CONTRACT DOCUMENTS AND SHALL MAKE THEMSELVES AWARE OF ALL JOB SITE CONDITIONS
THAT WILL AFFECT THEIR WORK.
C. THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL CONFIRM ALL GIVEN INFORMATION AND ADVISE THE BUILDING
OWNER, PRIOR TO BID, OF ANY CONFLICTS THAT WILL AFFECT THEIR COST PROPOSAL.
D. ANY CONTRACTOR WHO INTENDS TO SUBMIT A BID USING A ROOFING SYSTEM OTHER THAN
THE APPROVED MANUFACTURER MUST SUBMIT FOR PRE-QUALIFICATION IN WRITING FOURTEEN
(14) DAYS PRIOR TO THE BID DATE. ANY CONTRACTOR WHO FAILS TO SUBMIT AL1
INFORMATION AS REQUESTED WILL BE SUBJECT TO REJECTION. BIDS STATING "AS PER PLANS
AND SPECS" WILL BE UNACCEPTABLE.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. PRIOR TO STARTING WORK, THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR MUST SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING:
SHOP DRAWINGS SHOWING LAYOUT, DETAILS OF CONSTRUCTION AND IDENTIFICATION OF
MATERIALS. SAMPLE OF THE MANUFACTURER'S MEMBRANE SYSTEM WARRANTY. SUBMIT A LETTER
OF CERTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER WHICH CERTIFIES THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR IS
AUTHORIZED TO INSTALL THE MANUFACTURER'S ROOFING SYSTEM AND LISTS FOREMEN WHO
HAVE RECEIVED TRAINING FROM THE MANUFACTURER ALONG WITH THE DATES TRAINING WAS
RECEIVED. CERTIFICATION OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY RESERVE.
B. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLED WORK, SUBMIT COPIES OF THE MANUFACTURER'S FINAL
INSPECTION TO THE SPECIFIER PRIOR TO THE ISSUANCE OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY.
1.04 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A. DELIVER MATERIALS TO THE JOB SITE IN THE MANUFACTURER'S ORIGINAL, UNOPENED CONTAINERS
OR WRAPPINGS WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S NAME, BRAND NAME AND INSTALLATION
INSTRUCTIONS INTACT AND LEGIBLE. DELIVER IN SUFFICIENT QUANTITY TO PERMIT WORK TO
CONTINUE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION.
B. COMPLY WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPER MATERIAL STORAGE.
1. STORE MATERIALS, EXCEPT MEMBRANE, BETWEEN 60°F AND 80°F IN DRY AREAS
PROTECTED FROM WATER AND DIRECT SUNLIGHT. IF EXPOSED TO LOWER
TEMPERATURE, RESTORE TO 60°F MINIMUM TEMPERATURE BEFORE USING.
2. STORE MATERIALS CONTAINING SOLVENTS IN DRY, WELL VENTILATED SPACES WITH
PROPER FIRE AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. KEEP LIDS ON TIGHT. USE BEFORE
EXPIRATION OF THEIR SHELF LIFE.
C. INSULATION MUST BE ON PALLETS, OFF THE GROUND AND TIGHTLY COVERED WITH
WATERPROOF MATERIALS.
D. ANY MATERIALS WHICH ARE FOUND TO BE DAMAGED SHALL BE REMOVED AND
REPLACED AT THE APPLICATOR'S EXPENSE.
1.05 WORK SEQUENCE
A. SCHEDULE AND EXECUTE WORK TO PREVENT LEAKS AND EXCESSIVE TRAFFIC ON
COMPLETED ROOF SECTIONS. CARE SHOULD BE EXERCISED TO PROVIDE
PROTECTION FOR THE INTERIOR OF THE BUILDING AND TO ENSURE WATER DOES NOT
FLOW BENEATH ANY COMPLETED SECTIONS OF THE MEMBRANE SYSTEM
B. DO NOT DISRUPT ACTIVITIES IN OCCUPIED SPACES.
1.06 USE OF THE PREMISES
A. BEFORE BEGINNING WORK, THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR MUST SECURE APPROVAL
FROM THE BUILDING OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE FOLLOWING:
1. AREAS PERMITTED FOR PERSONNEL PARKING.
2. ACCESS TO THE SITE.
3. AREAS PERMITTED FOR STORAGE OF MATERIALS AND DEBRIS.
4. AREAS PERMITTED FOR THE LOCATION OF CRANES, HOISTS AND CHUTES FOR
LOADING AND UNLOADING MATERIALS TO AND FROM THE ROOF.
B. INTERIOR STAIRS OR ELEVATORS MAY NOT BE USED FOR REMOVING DEBRIS OR
DELIVERING MATERIALS, EXCEPT AS AUTHORIZED BY THE BUILDING
SUPERINTENDENT.
1.07 PRE-CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE
A. A PRE-BID MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE JOB SITE AS SCHEDULED WITH THE
ARCHITECT, G.C. & ROOFING CONTRACTOR.
B. PRIOR TO BID SUBMITTAL, THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHOULD SCHEDULE A JOB
SITE INSPECTION TO OBSERVE ACTUAL CONDITIONS AND VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS ON
THE ROOF.
C. ANY CONDITIONS WHICH ARE NOT SHOWN ON THE SHOP DRAWINGS SHOULD BE
INDICATED ON A COPY OF THE SHOP DRAWING AND INCLUDED WITH BID SUBMITTAL
IF NECESSARY TO CLARIFY AND CONDITIONS NOT SHOWN.
1.08 TEMPORARY FACILITIES AND CONTROLS
A. TEMPORARY UTILITIES:
1. THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH G.C. TO HAVE WATER, POWER FOR
CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES AND LIGHTING AVAILABLE AT THE SITE.
2. PROVIDE ALL HOSES, VALVES AND CONNECTIONS FOR WATER FROM SOURCE
DESIGNATED BY THE OWNER WHEN MADE AVAILABLE.
3. WHEN AVAILABLE, ELECTRICAL POWER SHOULD BE EXTENDED AS REQUIRED FROM THE
SOURCE. PROVIDE ALL TRAILERS, CONNECTIONS AND FUSED DISCONNECTS.
B. TEMPORARY SANITARY FACILITIES
IF SANITARY FACILITIES ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE JOB SITE, THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL
BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROVISION AND MAINTENANCE OF PORTABLE TOILETS OR THEIR EQUAL.
C. BUILDING SITE:
1. THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL USE REASONABLE CARE AND RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT
THE BUILDING AND SITE AGAINST DAMAGES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR THE
CORRECTION OF ANY DAMAGE INCURRED AS A RESULT OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE
CONTRACT.
2. THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE ALL DEBRIS FROM THE JOB SITE IN A TIMELY AND
LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE MANNER SO AS TO NOT DETRACT FROM THE AESTHETICS OR THE
FUNCTIONS OF THE BUILDING.
D. SECURITY:
OBEY THE OWNER'S REQUIREMENTS FOR PERSONNEL IDENTIFICATION, INSPECTION AND OTHER
SECURITY MEASURES.
1.09 JOB SITE PROTECTION
A. THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL ADEQUATELY PROTECT BUILDING, PAVED AREAS, SERVICE DRIVES,
LAWN, SHRUBS, TREES, ETC. FROM DAMAGE WHILE PERFORMING THE REQUIRED WORK. PROVIDE
CANVAS BOARDS AND SHEET METAL (PROPERLY SECURED) AS NECESSARY FOR PROTECTION AND
REMOVE PROTECTION MATERIAL AT COMPLETION. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR OR BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR COSTS TO REPAIR ALL PROPERTY DAMAGED DURING THE ROOFING APPLICATION.
B. DO NOT OVERLOAD ANY PORTION OF THE BUILDING, EITHER BY USE OF OR PLACEMENT OF
EQUIPMENT, STORAGE OF DEBRIS, OR STORAGE OF MATERIALS.
C. PROTECT AGAINST FIRE AND FLAME SPREAD. MAINTAIN PROPER AND ADEQUATE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.
D. TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT DRAINS FIOM CLOGGING DURING THE ROOFING APPLICATION.
REMOVE DEBRIS AT THE COMPLETION OF EACH DAY'S WORK AND CLEAN DRAINS, IF REQUIRED. AT
COMPLETION, TEST DRAINS TO ENSURE THE SYSTEM IS FREE RUNNING AND DRAINS ARE WATERTIGHT.
REMOVE STRAINERS AND PLUG DRAINS IN AREAS WHERE WORK IS IN PROGRESS. INSTALL FLAGS OR
OTHER TELLALES ON PLUGS. REMOVE PLUGS EACH NIGHT AND SCREEN DRAIN.
E. STORE MOISTURE SUSCEPTIBLE MATERIALS ABOVE GROUND AND PROTECT WITH WATERPROOF
COVERINGS.
F. REMOVE ALL TRACES OF PILED BULK MATERIALS AND RETURN THE JOB SITE TO ITS ORIGINAL
CONDITION UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK.
1.10 SAFETY
THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MEANS AND METHODS AS THEY RELATE TO
SAFETY
AND SHALL COMPLY WITH ALL APPLICABLE LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE SAFETY
RELATED. SAFETY SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR. ALL RELATED PERSONNEL
SHALL BE INSTRUCTED DAILY TO BE MINDFUL OF THE FULL TIME REQUIREMENT TO MAINTAIN A SAFE
ENVIRONMENT FOR THE FACILITY'S OCCUPANTS.
1.11 WORKMANSHIP
A. APPLICATORS INSTALLING NEW ROOF, FLASHING AND RELATED WORK SHALL BE FACTORY TRAINED
AND APPROVED BY THE MANUFACTURER THEY ARE REPRESENTING.
B. ALL WORK SHALL BE OF HIGHEST QUALITY AND IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S
PUBLISHED SPECIFICATIONS AND TO THE BUILDING OWNER'S SATISFACTION.
C. THERE SHALL BE A SUPERVISOR ON THE JOB SITE AT ALL TIMES WHILE WORK IS IN PROGRESS.
1.12 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. THE EPDM MEMBRANE ROOFING SYSTEM MUST ACHIEVE A UL CLASS A AND FM 1-90 RATING.
B. THE MANUFACTURER MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THE MANUFACTURING OF
VULCANIZED THERMAL SET SHEETING.
C. UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED IN THIS SPECIFICATION, THE ROOFING CONTRACTOR MUST STRICTLY
COMPLY WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S CURRENT SPECIFICATIONS AND DETAILS.
D. THE ROOFING SYSTEM MUST BE INSTALLED BY AN APPLICATOR AUTHORIZED AND TRAINED BY THE
MANUFACTURER IN COMPLIANCE WITH SHOP DRAWINGS AS APPROVED BY THE
MANUFACTURER. THE ROOFING APPLICATOR SHALL BE THOROUGHLY EXPERIENCED AND UPON
REQUEST BE ABLE TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF HAVING AT LEAST 1 YEARS SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE
INSTALLING SINGLEPLY EPDM ROOFING SYSTEMS AND HAVING INSTALLED AT LEAST 5 ROOFING
APPLICATION OR SEVERAL SIMILAR SYSTEMS OF EQUAL OR GREATER SIZE WITHIN ONE YEAR.
E. PROVIDE ADEQUATE NUMBER OF EXPERIENCED WORKMEN REGULARLY ENGAGED IN THIS TYPE OF
WORK WHO ARE SKILLED IN THE APPLICATION TECHNIQUES OF THE MATERIALS SPECIFIED. PROVIDE
AT LEAST ONE THOROUGHLY TRAINED AND EXPERIENCED SUPERINTENDENT ON THE JOB AT
ALL TIMES ROOFING WORK IS IN PROGRESS.
F. THERE SHALL BE NO DEVIATIONS MADE FIOM THIS SPECIFICATION OR THE APPROVED SHOP
DRAWINGS WITHOUT THE PRIOR WRITTEN APPROVAL OF THE SPECIFIER. ANY DEVIATION FROM THE
MANUFACTURER'S INSTALLATION PROCEDURES MUST BE SUPPORTED BY A WRITTEN CERTIFICATION ON
THE MANUFACTURER'S LETTERHEAD AND PRESENTED FOR THE SPECIFIER'S CONSIDERATION.
G. UPON COMPLETION OF THE INSTALLATION, THE APPLICATOR SHALL ARRANGE FOR AN INSPECTION TO
BE MADE BY A NON-SALES TECHNICAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE MEMBRANE MANUFACTURER IN ORDER
TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT CORRECTIVE WORK WILL BE REQUIRED BEFORE THE WARRANTY
WILL BE ISSUED. NOTIFY THE BUILDING OWNER SEVENTY-TWO (72) HOURS PRIOR TO THE

G. THE SURFACE ON WHICH THE INSULATION OR ROOFING MEMBRANE IS TO BE APPLIED SHALL BE
CLEAN, SMOOTH, DRY, AND FREE OF PROJECTIONS OR CONTAMINANTS THAT WOULD PREVENT PROPER
APPLICATION OF OR BE INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE NEW INSTALLATION, SUCH AS FINS, SHARP EDGES,

1.14 WARRANTY
A. PROVIDE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY COVERING BOTH LABOR AND MATERIAL WITH NO DOLLAR
LIMITATION
B. EVIDENCE OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY RESERVE SHALL BE INCLUDED AS PART OF THE
PROJECT SUBMITTALS FOR THE SPECIFIER'S APPROVAL.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 GENERAL
A. ALL COMPONENTS OF THE SPECIFIED ROOFING SYSTEM SHALL BE PRODUCTS OF THE SAME ROOFING

2.02 MEMBRANE
FURNISH SURE SEAL (OR APPROVED EQUAL) .060 NON-REINFORCED EPDM (ETHYLENE, PROPYLENE,
DIENE TERPOLYMER) IN THE LARGEST SHEET POSSIBLE. THE MEMBRANE SHALL CONFORM TO
THE MINIMUM PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF ASTM D4637. WHEN A 10 FOOT WIDE MEMBRANE IS TO BE
USED, THE MEMBRANE SHALL BE MANUFACTURED IN A SINGLE PANEL WITH NO FACTORY SPLICES TO

C. ANY BOARDS SPANNING OR CUPPED SHOULD BE RELIEF CUT. WALK IN ALL BOARDS AS ADHESIVE SETS
UP, OR TEMPORARILY WEIGHT AS REQUIRED TO INSURE FULL CONTACT WITH SUBSTRATE
3.04 MEMBRANE PLACEMENT AND BONDING
A. UNROLL AND POSITION MEMBRANE WITHOUT STRETCHING. ALLOW THE MEMBRANE TO RELAX FOR
APPROXIMATELY 1/2 HOUR BEFORE BONDING. FOLD THE SHEET BACK ONTO ITSELF SO
HALF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MEMBRANE IS EXPOSED.
B. APPLY THE BONDING ADHESIVE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S PUBLISHED
INSTRUCTIONS, TO BOTH THE UNDERSIDE OF THE MEMBRANE AND THE SUBSTRATE. ALLOW THE
ADHESIVE TO DRY UNTIL IT IS TACKY BUT WILL NOT STRING OR STICK TO A DRY FINGER TOUCH.
1. ROLL THE COATED MEMBRANE INTO THE COATED SUBSTRATE WHILE AVOIDING WRINKLES. BRUSH
DOWN THE BONDED HALF OF THE MEMBRANE SHEET WITH A SOFT BRISTLE PUSH BROOM TO ACHIEVE
MAXIMUM CONTACT.
2. FOLD BACK THE UNBONDED HALF OF THE MEMBRANE SHEET AND REPEAT THE BONDING
PROCEDURE.
A. INSTALL ADJOINING MEMBRANE SHEETS IN THE SAME MANNER, OVERLAPPING EDGES APPROXIMATELY
4 INCHES. DO NOT APPLY BONDING ADHESIVE TO THE SPLICE AREA.
3.05 MEMBRANE SPLICING (3"TAPE SPLICE)
A. OVERLAP ADJACENT SHEETS AND MARK A LINE 1/2 INCH OUT FROM THE TOPSHEET.
B. FOLD THE TOP SHEET BACK AND CLEAN THE DRY SPLICE AREA (MINIMUM 2-1/2 INCHES WIDE) OF BOTH
MEMBRANE SHEETS WITH SURE - SEAL PRIMER AS REQUIRED BY THE MEMBRANE
MANUFACTURER.
C. APPLY SPLICE TAPE TO BOTTOM SHEET WITH THE EDGE OF THE RELEASE FILM ALONG THE MARKED
LINE. PRESS TAPE ONTO THE SHEET USING HAND PRESSURE. OVERLAP TAPE ROLL ENDS A MINIMUM
OF 1 INCH.
D. REMOVE THE RELEASE FILM AND PRESS THE TOP SHEET ONTO THE TAPE USING HAND PRESSURE.
E. ROLL THE SEAM TOWARD THE SPLICE EDGE WITH A 2 INCH WIDE STEEL ROLLER.
G. THE USE OF LAP SEALANT WITH TAPE SPLICES IS OPTIONAL EXCEPT AT TAPE OVERLAPS AND CUT
EDGES OF REINFORCED MEMBRANE WHERE LAP SEALANT IS REQUIRED.
3.06 FLASHING
A. WALL AND CURB FLASHING SHALL BE CURED EPDM MEMBRANE. CONTINUE THE DECK MEMBRANE AS
WALL FLASHING WHERE PRACTICABLE.
B. FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S TYPICAL FLASHING PROCEDURES FOR ALL WALL, CURB, AND
PENETRATION FLASHING INCLUDING METAL EDGINGLCOPING AND ROOF DRAIN APPLICATIONS.
3.07 WALKWAYS
A. INSTALL WALKWAYS AT ALL TRAFFIC CONCENTRATION POINTS (SUCH AS ROOF HATCHES, ACCESS
DOORS, ROOFTOP LADDERS, ETC.) AND ALL LOCATIONS AS IDENTIFIED ON THE SPECIFIER'S
DRAWING.
B. ADHERE WALKWAYS PADS TO THE EPDM MEMBRANE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S
SPECIFICATIONS.
3.08 DAILY SEAL
A. ON PHASED ROOFING, WHEN THE COMPLETION OF FLASHINGS AND TERMINATIONS IS NOT ACHIEVED

3.09 CLEAN UP
A. PERFORM DAILY CLEAN-UP TO COLLECT ALL WRAPPINGS, EMPTY CONTAINERS, PAPER, AND OTHER
DEBRIS FROMTHE PROJECT SITE. UPON COMPLETION, ALL DEBRIS MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN A
LEGALLY ACCEPTABLE MANNER. FINGER TOUCH.

REVIEW AND RESOLVE AREAS OF POTENTIAL INTERFERENCE AND CONFLICTS, AND TO
COORDINATE RELATED CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
SHALL INSTALLATION WORK BEGIN UNTIL THIS CONFERENCE HAS TAKEN PLACE. COPY

SHALL SHOW COMPLETE LAYOUTS, IN PLAN AND ELEVATIONS, OF EACH AREA OR
CATEGORY OF WORK INCLUDING ALL DETAILS, SPECIAL SHAPES OR MOLDINGS,
LOCATIONS AND EXTENT OF REINFORCING MESHES, LOCATIONS AND TYPES OF JOINTS,
INTERFACE OF WORK WITH THAT OF OTHER TRADES, AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS WHICH
ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS SUBCONTRACTOR.
MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION PROCEDURES FOR THE PROJECT,
WHICH WILL BECOME THE BASIS FOR ACCEPTING OR REJECTING ACTUAL

SUBMIT SAMPLES OF TEXTURES AND COLORS FOR SELECTION BY OWNER AND
ARCHITECT.
BEFORE INSTALLATION, 1'X 1' SAMPLES SHALL BE PREPARED FOR EACH COLOR AND
TEXTURE, AND SUBMITTED TO THE ARCHITECT FOR APPROVAL OF COLOR AND
TEXTURE (ONLY).
I. MOCK-UP
UNLESS OTHERWISE DETAILED ON DRAWINGS, AT AN AREA ON SITE WHERE APPROVED
BY THE ARCHITECT AND OWNER, PROVIDE MOCK_UP E.I.F.S. WALL PANEL.
MAKE EACH MOCK_UP APPROXIMATELY 4'-0" HIGH AND 6'-0" LONG, OR LARGER AS
INDICATED ON DRAWINGS.
PROVIDE ONE MOCK_UP PANEL FOR EACH COMBINATION OF TEXTURE, COLOR, AND
JOINT TYPE USED IN THE WORK. MOCK_UP TO INCLUDE ANY SPECIAL DETAILS,
REVEALS, CORNER
CONDITIONS, MOLDINGS, ETC.
REVISE AS NECESSARY TO SECURE THE ARCHITECT'S AND OWNER'S APPROVAL.
COMPLETELY DEMOLISH AND REMOVE THE MOCK_UPS FROM THE JOB SITE ONLY UPON
COMPLETION AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE WORK OF THIS SECTION.
1.4 PRODUCT HANDLING
ALL MATERIALS SHALL BE HANDLED AND STORED IN STRICT CONFORMANCE WITH
MANUFACTURER'S
SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS.
A. ALL PROPRIETARY MATERIALS SHALL BE DELIVERED TO THE JOB IN ORIGINAL, UNOPENED
PACKAGES WITH LABELS INTACT, AND BEARING INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS WHERE
APPLICABLE. AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE AFTER DELIVERY, ALL PACKAGES SHALL BE
INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE, AND UNSATISFACTORY MATERIALS RESULTING
THEREFROM SHALL BE REPLACED.
B. ALL PROPRIETARY MATERIALS SHALL BE STORED UNDER COVER IN A COOL, DRY LOCATION,
PROTECTED FROM SUNLIGHT, MOISTURE AND OTHER HARMFUL ELEMENTS, AND AT
TEMPERATURES OF NOT LESS THAN 40 DEGREES F. IF STORAGE SPACE IS LOCATED WITHIN
THE BUILDING PROPER, ALL WALLS AND THE FLOOR SHALL BE ADEQUATELY SHIELDED
FROM SPILLAGE, SPATTERING, ETC.
a. MATERIAL SUSPECTED OF HAVING BEEN SUBJECTED TO FREEZING, SHALL NOT BE
USED UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER VERIFIES THAT THE MATERIAL HAS NOT BEEN
DAMAGED.
1.5 EXTRA STOCK
A. UPON COMPLETION OF THE WORK, DELIVER TO THE OWNER AT THE JOB SITE A MAINTENANCE
KIT INCLUDING, BUT NOT NECESSARILY LIMITED TO:
PRINTED MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS;
ONE GALLON OF THE MANUFACTURER_APPROVED ADHESIVE;
ONE GALLON OF THE MANUFACTURER_APPROVED FINISH FOR EACH COLOR INSTALLED,
AND FROM THE SAME BATCH AS THE INSTALLED FINISH;
TWENTY SQ. FT. OF EACH TYPE OF THE MANUFACTURER_APPROVED REINFORCING
FABRIC(S);
TWENTY SQ. FT. OF EACH TYPE OF THE MANUFACTURER_APPROVED INSULATION BOARD.
B. PACKAGE THE CONTAINERS SECURELY TO PREVENT DETERIORATION AND DAMAGE, AND
LABEL EACH ITEM CLEARLY AS TO CONTENTS AND WHERE USED.
1.6 GUARANTEE
A. THE MATERIAL AND LABOR AND WORKMANSHIP SHALL BE GUARANTEED BY THE
MANUFACTURER FOR TWELVE (12) YEARS. THE WRITTEN GUARANTEE SHALL BE FURNISHED
TO THE OWNER PRIOR TO FINAL PAYMENT AND ACCEPTANCE.
1. THE MANUFACTURER SHALL SUBMIT, IN WRITING, HIS STANDARD, LIMITED WARRANTY
COVERING
FAILURES IN ANY MATERIAL WHICH HE FURNISHES FOR INSTALLATION.
2. A CONCURRENT, WRITTEN TWELVE-YEAR WARRANTY, SIGNED BY THE GENERAL
CONTRACTOR AND SUBCONTRACTOR, SHALL BE FURNISHED AGREEING TO PROVIDE THE
LABOR NECESSARY TO COMPLEMENT THE MANUFACTURER'S MATERIALS WARRANTY
AS WELL AS ACCEPTING THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY FAILURES IN WORKMANSHIP
WHICH ARE NOT ATTRIBUTABLE TO MATERIALS FAILURE.
1.7 COOPERATION WITH OTHER TRADES
A. INSTALLATION OF FINISH SYSTEM SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH ALL OTHER TRADES WHOSE
WORK WILL BE CONCEALED BY, CONNECTED TO, OR AFFECTED IN ANY WAY BY THIS
INSTALLATION. INSTALLATION OF SYSTEM SHALL BE COORDINATED AS NECESSARY
WITH INSTALLATION OR CONSTRUCTION OF SHEATHING, CONCRETE, AND MASONRY
SUBSTRATES.
B. BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY INSTALLATION WORK, ALL REQUIRED INSPECTIONS SHALL
HAVE BEEN MADE. ADDITIONAL WORK, RESULTING FROM A LACK OF COOPERATION AND
COORDINATION, SHALL BE PERFORMED AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONTRACTOR WHO SHALL
ALSO RESOLVE ANY RESULTING CONFLICTS.

2. TRIM ACCESSORIES: PLASTIC PRODUCTS SHALL BE USED FOR CASING BEADS. METAL
SOFFIT VENTS AND DRIP SCREEDS SHALL BE USED WHERE THESE ITEMS ARE REQUIRED, AND
MUST HAVE BAKED- ON COLOR TO MATCH THAT OF SELECTED FINISH.
3. SEALANT:
a. SEALANT JOINTS: PROVIDE SMOOTH, STRAIGHT, SOUND SURFACES TO RECEIVE
SEALANTS, WITH NO MESH OR MESH PATTERN VISIBLE. ALLOW ADEQUATE JOINT WIDTH
FOR THE EXPECTED MOVEMENT. USE PRIMER ON ALL SURFACES TO RECEIVE
SEALANT. APPLY SEALANT TO THE BASE COAT ONLY, NOT TO THE FINISH COAT, AND

PENETRATION. ATTACH BETWEEN STUDS INTO SHEATHING AS NEEDED TO SECURE
THE TRACK FLAT AGAINST THE WALL SURFACE. FOR SOLID SHEATHING ATTACH DIRECTLY
INTO SHEATHING AT 12 INCHES ON CENTER MAXIMUM.
3. BUTT SECTIONS OF STARTER TRACK TOGETHER. MITER CUT OUTSIDE CORNERS AND
ABUT. SNIP FRONT FLANGE OF ONE INSIDE CORNER PIECE (TO ALLOW EPS BOARD TO BE
SEATED INSIDE OF TRACK) AND ABUT.
4. INSTALL DRAINAGE TRACK AT OTHER EIF SYSTEM TERMINATIONS AS DESIGNATED ON
DETAIL DRAWINGS: ABOVE WINDOWS AND DOORS, AT FLOOR LINES, ABOVE ROOF ALONG
DORMERS OR GABLE END WALLS, AND BENEATH WINDOW SILLS WITH CONCEALED
FLASHING.
C. SPLICE STRIPS FOR DRAINAGE TRACK AND FLASHING:
1. DRAINAGE TRACK, WINDOW/DOOR HEAD FLASHING AND SIDE WALL STEP FLASHING:
INSTALL 2 INCH WIDE DIAGONAL SPLICE STRIPS OF DETAIL MESH AT ENDS OF HEAD
FLASHINGS. INSTALL MINIMUM 4 INCH WIDE SPLICE STRIPS OF DETAIL MESH BETWEEN
BACK FLANGE OF STARTER TRACK, HEAD FLASHINGS AND ROOF/SIDE WALL STEP FLASHING.
CENTER THE MESH SO IT SPANS EVENLY BETWEEN THE BACK FLANGE OF THE
DRAINAGE TRACK OR FLASHING AND THE SHEATHING. EMBED THE MESH IN THE WET
JOINT COMPOUND AND TROWEL SMOOTH.
2. APPLY WATERPROOF COATING OVER THE SPLICE STRIP WHEN THE JOINT COMPOUND IS
DRY.
D. BACKWRAPPING:
1. APPLY A STRIP OF DETAIL MESH TO THE DRY AIR/MOISTURE BARRIER AT ALL SYSTEM
TERMINATIONS (WINDOWS, DOORS, EXPANSION JOINTS, ETC.) EXCEPT WHERE THE
DRAINAGE TRACK IS INSTALLED. THE MESH MUST BE WIDE ENOUGH TO ADHERE
APPROXIMATELY 4 INCHES OF MESH ONTO THE WALL, BE ABLE TO WRAP
AROUND THE INSULATION BOARD EDGE AND COVER A MINIMUM OF 2 ½ INCHES ON
THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF THE INSULATION BOARD. ADHERE MESH STRIPS TO THE
AIR/MOISTURE BARRIER AND ALLOW THEM TO DANGLE UNTIL THE BACKWRAP
PROCEDURE IS COMPLETED.
E. INSULATION BOARD:
1. APPLY ADHESIVE TO INSULATION BOARD BY METHOD ACCEPTABLE TO (OR
RECOMMENDED BY) FINISH SYSTEM MANUFACTURER.
2. MOUNT PREPARED INSULATION BOARD TO SUBSTRATE, AND TAMP BOARD WITH
UNIFORM PRESSURE TO PRODUCE FULL CONTACT AND BOND. USE STRAIGHT EDGE TO
ALIGN EDGES OF ADJACENT INSULATION BOARDS; ABUT ALL JOINTS TIGHTLY.
3. FOLLOW SYSTEM MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING BOARD OFFSET
TO SUBSTRATE JOINTS, (MIN. 9 1/2") RUNNING BOND PATTERN AND STAGGERED AND/OR
INTERLOCKED JOINTS AND CORNERS.
4. FINISH SYSTEM INSTALLER SHALL VERIFY THAT MOUNTING METHOD OF INSULATION IS
ACCEPTABLE TO SUBSTRATE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER; CONFIRM IN WRITING TO
GENERAL CONTRACTOR, ARCHITECT AND OWNER. IF REVISED (DIFFERENT) MOUNTING
METHOD IS REQUIRED BY SUBSTRATE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER, THE FINISH
SYSTEM INSTALLER SHALL PROVIDE SAME AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO OWNER.
5. INSTALL EXPANSION JOINTS AND OTHER REQUIRED ITEMS COMPLETELY EMBEDDED IN
MIXED ADHESIVE (OR OTHERWISE PER MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS).
a. REBATES FOR SEALANT SHALL BE CUT IN BOARDS WHERE SHOWN ON DRAWINGS OR
WHEREVER THIS SYSTEM ABUTS ANOTHER SYSTEM OR MATERIAL IN A DIFFERENT
PLANE IF A TRIM ACCESSORY IS NOT CALLED FOR.
b. ACCESSORIES SHALL BE INSTALLED CONTINUOUSLY AND IN PERFECT ALIGNMENT, IN
DESIGNATED LOCATIONS, WITH A MINIMUM NUMBER OF JOINTS WHICH SHALL BE
TIGHTLY BUTTED.
c. INSULATION BOARD SHALL BE ACCURATELY CUT AS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION
AND FUNCTION OF TRIM ACCESSORIES, PARTICULARLY WHERE VENTING IS REQUIRED.
6. LET ADHESIVE DRY FOR RECOMMENDED TIME PERIOD. INSPECT INSULATION BOARD
FIELD F OR FLATNESS, REPAIR ANY DAMAGE OR DETERIORATION AND SAND DOWN ANY HIGH
AREAS TO PRODUCE LEVEL SURFACE. REMOVE ALL SANDING DUST PRIOR TO APPLYING
BASE COATING AND REINFORCING FABRIC.

PART 3 _ EXECUTION
3.1 SURFACE CONDITIONS
A. THE MANUFACTURER'S REPRESENTATIVE AND THE INSTALLER SHALL MAKE A THOROUGH
INSPECTION OF THE SUBSTRATE PRIOR TO APPLICATION OF THE WALL FINISH SYSTEM. CONFIRM
SURFACE IS FLAT WITHIN 1/4 INCH WITHIN 10_FOOT RADIUS, MEASURED AT ANY POINT ON SUBSTRATE
SURFACE. SUBSTRATE TO BE CLEAN, DRY AND FREE OF FOREIGN MATERIAL. WRITTEN ACCEPTANCE
OF THE SUBSTRATE SHALL BE SENT TO THE OWNER, GENERAL CONTRACTOR AND ARCHITECT,
CONFIRMING THAT WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN SATISFIED (OR DESCRIBING ANY
NECESSARY CORRECTIONS NEEDED). COMMENCEMENT OF PLACEMENT OF FINISH SYSTEM SHALL BE
CONSTRUED AS ACCEPTANCE OF SUBSTRATE. ANY SUBSEQUENT CORRECTIONS TO THE SUBSTRATE
SHALL BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE FINISH SYSTEM INSTALLER.
B. JOINTS, REBATES, DRIPS, REGLETS, AND OTHER DESIGN FEATURES SHALL BE LOCATED AND
CONSTRUCTED WHERE AND AS SHOWN ON DRAWINGS.
C. AFTER PRIMING AND PLACEMENT OF BACKER RODS, WHERE REQUIRED, JOINTS AND REBATES SHALL
BE FILLED WITH SEALANT.
D. CONTIGUOUS WORK OF OTHER TRADES SHALL BE PROTECTED AGAINST SPLATTERING RESULTING
FROM APPLICATION OF COATING AND SEALANT. THIS SUBCONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
ANY DAMAGES TO SUCH WORK CAUSED BY HIS FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTIVE
MEASURES.
E. ALL FINISH WORK MUST MATCH APPROVED SAMPLES AND MOCK_UPS.
3.2 MIXING
A. MIXING OF ADHESIVE(S) AND OTHER FINISH MATERIALS SHALL BE IN STRICT ACCORDANCE WITH
MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.
B. ADHESIVE:
1. FOR MIXING AND PREPARING ADHESIVE:
a. USE A CLEAN CONTAINER, FREE FROM ALL FOREIGN SUBSTANCE;
b. DO NOT USE A CONTAINER WHICH HAS BEEN USED FOR A PETROLEUM PRODUCT, OR WHICH
HAS BEEN CLEANED WITH A PETROLEUM PRODUCT;
c. IMMEDIATELY AFTER MIXING, CLEAN THE CONTAINERS AND MIXING EQUIPMENT.
2. USE TYPE OF MIXER AS RECOMMENDED BY MATERIAL MANUFACTURER.
3. STIR THE ADHESIVE PRIOR TO ADDING PORTLAND CEMENT.
4. MIX THE SPECIFIED PORTLAND CEMENT WITH THE SPECIFIED ADHESIVE IN A RATIO PER
MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS.
5. DO NOT ADD RAPID BINDERS, ANTI_FREEZE, ACCELERATORS, OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL EXCEPT
AS SPECIFICALLY APPROVED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FINISH SYSTEM.
6. KEEP CONTAINER(S) CLOSED WHEN NOT IN USE.
C. FINISH:
1. USING THE PROPER MIXER, THOROUGHLY MIX THE FACTORY_PREPARED FINISH MATERIAL UNTIL
A UNIFORMLY WORKABLE CONSISTENCY IS ATTAINED.
2. ADD THE SPECIFIED WATER ONLY AS REQUIRED TO ADJUST WORKABILITY, AND AS PER PACKAGE
INSTRUCTIONS.
3.3 APPLICATION
A. AIR/MOISTURE BARRIER:
1. PROTECT ROUGH OPENINGS, JOINTS AND PARAPETS: APPLY JOINT COMPOUND BY TROWEL OVER
ROUGH OPENINGS, SHEATHING JOINTS, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE CORNERS, AND TOPS OF
PARAPETS. IMMEDIATELY EMBED REINFORCING MESH IN THE WET JOINT COMPOUND AND
TROWEL SMOOTH. EMBED MINIMUM 4 INCH WIDE MESH AT SHEATHING JOINTS AND MINIMUM 9
INCH WIDE MESH AT ROUGH OPENINGS, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE CORNERS AND TOPS OF
PARAPETS - REFER TO DRYVIT INSTALLATION DETAILS FOR DETAILED INFORMATION ON PROPER
PROTECTION OF ROUGH OPENINGS AND SEQUENCING OF WORK AT ROUGH OPENINGS.
2. SPOT FASTENERS WITH JOINT COMPOUND.
3. APPLY WATERPROOF COATING BY ROLLER OVER SHEATHING SURFACE, INCLUDING THE DRY
JOINT COMPOUND, TO A UNIFORM WET MIL THICKNESS OF 10 MILS IN ONE COAT. USE ½ INCH
NAP ROLLER FOR PLYWOOD AND GYPSUM SHEATHING. USE ¾ INCH NAP ROLLER FOR GLASS MAT
FACED GYPSUM SHEATHING. PROTECT FROM WEATHER UNTIL DRY.
4. COORDINATE INSTALLATION OF CONNECTING AIR BARRIER COMPONENTS WITH OTHER TRADES
TO PROVIDE A CONTINUOUS AIR TIGHT MEMBRANE.
5. COORDINATE INSTALLATION OF FLASHING AND OTHER MOISTURE PROTECTION COMPONENTS
WITH OTHER TRADES TO ACHIEVE COMPLETE MOISTURE PROTECTION SUCH THAT WATER IS
DIRECTED TO THE EXTERIOR, NOT INTO THE WALL ASSEMBLY, AND DRAINED TO THE EXTERIOR AT
SOURCES OF LEAKS (WINDOWS, DOORS AND SIMILAR PENETRATIONS THROUGH THE WALL
ASSEMBLY).
NOTE: WINDOWS AND DOORS ARE TYPICALLY INSTALLED IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING INSTALLATION OF

a. APPLY AND LEVEL DURING THE SAME OPERATION TO THE NECESSARY THICKNESS CONSISTENT WITH
UNIFORM COVERAGE AND TEXTURE REQUIREMENTS.
b. APPLY AND TEXTURE IN A CONTINUOUS OPERATION OVER A WALL SURFACE.
c. WORK TO CORNERS AND JOINTS, NOT ALLOWING FINISH MATERIAL TO SET UP WITHIN A DISTINCT WALL
OR PANEL AREA. MAINTAIN WET EDGE TO PREVENT COLD JOINTS.
d. USE SUFFICIENT STAGING AND PERSONNEL TO ACCOMPLISH A UNIFORM APPEARANCE, WITHOUT COLD

J. APPLICATION OF THE WALL FINISH SYSTEM SHALL BE IN STRICT CONFORMANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S
RECOMMENDATIONS. IF DISCREPANCIES EXIST BETWEEN THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE
CONTRACT DOCUMENTS, NOTIFY THE ARCHITECT IN WRITING FOR HIS RESOLUTION PRIOR TO THE
APPLICATION.
K. COMPLETED SURFACES, IN ANY PLANE, WHICH ARE DETERMINED TO BE NOT LEVEL, OR OUT OF PLUMB IN
EXCESS OF ALLOWABLE TOLERANCES, OR WHICH OTHERWISE EXHIBIT POOR WORKMANSHIP, SHALL BE
REMOVED AND REPLACED AT THE EXPENSE OF THE CONTRACTOR.
1. IF REMOVAL OF THE PLASTER COATING REVEALS DEFECTS IN THE PANELIZED BACKING, THE SHEATHING
BACKING, AND/OR THE SUPPORTING FRAMING THEREFORE, THE AFFECTED COMPONENTS SHALL
LIKEWISE BE REMOVED AND REPLACED, REGARDLESS OF WHICH SUBCONTRACTOR WAS RESPONSIBLE
FOR THEIR INITIAL INSTALLATION. THE ARCHITECT OR OWNER WILL DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THIS
REMEDIAL WORK.
L. COMPLETED SURFACES DISTURBED BY CUTTING DURING SUBSEQUENT CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS, OR
DURING WORK BY CONTRACTORS EMPLOYED BY OWNER (SUCH AS FOR INSTALLATION OF BUILDING
SIGNAGE) SHALL BE PATCHED AS NECESSARY TO RESTORE THE INTEGRITY OF THE SYSTEM.
3.4 JOB CONDITIONS
A. APPLICATION OF THE SYSTEM SHALL NOT TAKE PLACE DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER UNLESS APPROPRIATE
PROTECTION IS EMPLOYED.
B. INSTALLATION OF MATERIALS WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS LESS THAN 40 DEGREES F SHALL TAKE PLACE ONLY
IF SUPPLEMENTARY HEAT IS PROVIDED AND MAINTAINED AFTER APPLICATION OF THE WET MATERIALS AS
REQUIRED BY THE EIFS MANUFACTURER. SUFFICIENT VENTILATION AND TIME SHALL BE PROVIDED TO ENSURE
THAT MATERIALS HAVE SUFFICIENTLY DRIED PRIOR TO REMOVING SUPPLEMENTAL HEAT.
3.5 CLEAN UP
A. MATERIALS LEFT OVER BY THE INSTALLER AT THE JOBSITE SHALL BE REMOVED. THE INSTALLER SHALL CLEAN
ADJACENT MATERIALS AND SURFACES, AND THE WORK AREA, OF ALL FOREIGN MATERIALS RESULTING FROM THIS
WORK.
1. DURING THE PROGRESS OF THE WORK, ALL DISCARDED MATERIALS, RUBBISH, CONTAINERS AND RAGS
SHALL BE REMOVED FROM THE AREA DAILY.
2. WHEN ALL WORK IS COMPLETE, TEMPORARY PROTECTIVE COVERINGS SHALL BE REMOVED FROM
