1. John 2 Sermon Summary: Andy Schultz
When looking at the second chapter of John we see that it is broken up into two stories: the story of Jesus
changing the water into wine and Jesus clearing the temple of God. The theme the Pastor shared was,
simply, resurrection.
Through the resurrection of Jesus we are given the gift of everlasting life. We only have to ask and
receive that gift that Jesus has extended to us. The beautiful piece of this is that Jesus can do absolutely
anything and his timing is perfect. His timing is perfect in that he shows up and gives us this grace and
truth when we absolutely need and are longing for it.
Along those lines of God’s timing being perfect,he also rescues us from our own prayer requests of what
we think we need and want. God will tell us yes, no or wait and make everything work out to His glory
and for our good. Now,we may not be able to see this. Jesus performed obvious miracles in front of
people and they continued to ask for signs. We can see this in Jesus clearing the temple. The Jews scoffed
at him for saying that he could raise the temple in three days after being destroyed. However, they did not
realize that he was not speaking about the temple, but His own body. The sacrifice for all humanity. This
is the same with us. We continually ask for a better job, marriage, or fill-in-the-blank when all along he
has given us an answer and a sign of the answer.
We need to take a step back and reflect. Do we let God into our daily life and listen to his answers?
